You don't give us a date to work with so here are some that were there in
the 1960s
St Matthew's Church on the corner of Hereford Street and Church Road
Hereford St Methodist Church
Salvation Army Hall, Hereford Street
Duckpool Road Baptist Church
Presbyterian church of Wales, Caerleon Road
The Apostolic Church, Constance Street
There were more churches in Albert Avenue, Victoria Avenue, St John's Road,
and along Caerleon Road.
Hi
If a family lived in Church Road, Maindee, Newport, which church would it be
please and are there other churches in the vicinity? If so which ones would
be closest?
TIA.

Subject: [MON] Roderick and Rhydderch Families
Good morning colleagues, I am interested in the Roderick and Rhydderch
Families of Monmouthshire. Our family Thomas Roderick moved into
Blaenafon about 1800, where there are 4 recorded baptisms in the
Llanover Upper parish. He was son of Evan Roderick or Rhydderch of
Llantrisant, Glam. I believe THomas had earlier children and it is
likely others of his family moved to Monmouthshire. I have suspected a
genealogical connection with other Roderick and Rhydderch fams.in
Pontypool, Abergavenny, Monkswood, Panteag, I have acquired many
certificates of birth, marriage and death from the GRO in London,
concentrating on Gwent. I am happy to provide any information from
them.
By the way one Roderick family in Pontypool (Trevethin Parish) came
from Llanelly, Carmarthenshire
We also have Y chromosome DNA project which really proves family
relationships through the male line. It is through FamilyTreeDNA
(Google it) , and all Rodericks and RHydderchs are heartily invited to
participate. We have 5 independent families in Wales already
identified with respect to parish origin. Let me know if you have any
questions about it.
Thank you for any collaboration.

I am trying to trace the descendants of Lewis and Raddy (Rachel?) Watkins.
They farmed at Pontycaith, Llangwm, Usk. Lewis died in 1959. I believe they
had a daughter Betty who was a receptionist at a hotel in Aberystwyth and
became Mrs Mckenzie/Mckinsley? I would much appreciate hearing from anyone
who knows anything about this family. Thank you, Geraldine Morris

In a 1917 newspaper notice regarding the funeral of Mr Walter HARRIS of Llanhilleth, mention was made of the Rev S D WILLIAMS and Mrs WILLIAMS of Abercarn, Son-in-law and Daughter.
I have used Google and looked up several sites but can find no mention of the Rev S D Williams. Unable to locate him in 1901 census. I have located Walter HARRIS in all census and the children are all accounted for. I would like to know who the Mrs Williams is please and how does she fit in as the daughter of Walter HARRIS.
Is there anyone with better knowledge of the Abercarn area who could advise of me sites/places to look please. Does anyone have the Rev S D Williams in their research please?
Regards
Jenny
Thank you to those who responded to my request for a look up in the 1871 census for images missing from ancestry.com.
Ancestry.com has been advised of the missing images/folios.
Two folios missing that I am aware of are
RG10/5352 Folio 120
RG 10/5352 Folio 89
Perhaps the more people who report missing images/folios for the Parish of Mynyddyslwyn in the 1871 census, the more possible the images may be added to Ancestry.com?

Jenny

Hi, Michael. I did not see any Colemans in ED 13, but there is a family of
Colemans in ED 9 (RG9/3997/105/P.4):
Patrick Coleman, Head, Age 35, Laborer, b. County Cork, Ireland
Mary Coleman, wife, Age 34, b. County Cork, Ireland
Andrew Coleman Age 23, Relative, Laborer, b. County Cork, Ireland
James Coleman, son, Age 4, b. Blaina, Monmouthshire, Wales
There is also a William Coleman in ED 9, living as a boarder in a different
household. He was Age 19, b. Frome, Somerset, England, Occupation Forgeman.

Hi, John. Thank you so much for the map references! They were spot on. I
can now see clearly how my GGrandparents in Blaina must have walked to work
in iron and coal industrial facilities there, and up the valley to the CofE in
Nantyglo where they married in 1862. Pre-1861 sightings of them had been
over the mountain in Trevethin, so finding their marriage in Nantyglo came as a
surprise puzzle which was solved by finding that they were employed in Blaina
in 1861. Of course we still do not know what moved them to migrate from
Trevethin to Blaina, but it is an easy surmise that they did so for reasons
related to employment.
Best regards,
Cecil

===================
Dear Cecil,
Winberry Row and Shrubbery Row were just north of Blaina village in the area
now known as Cwm-celyn. Winberry Row was at Ordnance Survey coordinates
320270,209195.
You can call up a highly detailed (1:10,560-scale) late 19th century (1886)
map of this area by going to the Old Maps website at www.old-maps.co.uk/
On the main page, select the "Co-ordinates" option in the search facility
(near top left of the page). In the search field enter the co-ordinates
320270,209195 (without any spaces) and click the Search button.
When the small map appears, click on the "Enlarged view" button below the
map. A highly detailed large map of the area will open in a new window,
centred on 'Winberry Row'.
'Bumblow' (Bumble Hole?), 'Dol-y-Garn' (Dab-y-Garn), and 'Berea Chapel' are
also shown.
'Whinberry Row' is also shown on a modern (circa 1998) street map of Blaina,
near the junction of Pant View with Attlee Road in Coedcae (between Blaina
and Nantyglo).
Kind regards,
John

I am appealing to Listers who have knowledge of Aberystruth local
history/geography to help identify the location of the following addresses:
Wimberry Row (aka Whimbery)
Shrubbery Row
Mount Pleasant
Hill Side
Dab-y-Garn
Bumble Hole
Road Sides
Chapel Ally (sic)
Main Road
- British School
-Public House
-Berea Independent Chapel
-Kings Head
-Public House Forge Hammer
-Rising Sun Inn
In the order named, these were the places covered in Enumeration District
(ED) 13 of Aberystruth in the Wales Census of 1861. Sadly, A2A does not
provide a written description of the territory of that ED as it is supposed to. I
have had only limited success trying to find the addresses in streetmap.com
and multimap.com. What I did find indicates they were in or near Blaina.
It is important for me to establish where they were, because my
GGrandparents (Mary Evans and William Townsend) were among those enumerated in ED 13 (the
Bumble Hole section, RG9/3997/240/Household 50) and if it is in Blaina, it
will explain an otherwise-inexplicable event in their lives, namely their
marriage in nearby Nanty Glo the following year.
Best regards,
Cecil
Thanks for all the replies on and off the list. With all the docks in
newport looks like he was towing boats.
