Hi All,
My name is Kaz & have been researching my family for over 10 years & have been trying to trace details on one part of my family.
I am trying to find more details on my Rowland[s] side.
Sarah Rowland[s] was born 20th October 1840 in St Mellons village, her father was
William Rowland[s] & her mother was Mary nee Hedger or Hudgins ,the informant of the
birth was Margarett Pearce wife of William Pearce of St Mellons, the birth
was registered on 27th October 1840.
They went on to have further children, these were found in Ty Draw in Roath,
1851 CENSUS OF ROATH. REF.H.O.107/2455, E.D.3.
Address: TY DRAW
ROWLAND MARY HD W 33 PAUPER FORMERLY COOK, MON RUMNEY.(c1818)
ROWLAND SARAH DA - 10 SCHOLAR, MON RUMNEY(c1841)
ROWLAND JOHN SO - 8 SCHOLAR MON RUMNEY(c1843)
ROWLAND WILLIAM SO - 6 SCHOLAR GLA ROATH (c1845)
ROWLAND EDWARD SO - 3 -GLA ROATH (c1848)
ROWLAND THOMAS SO - 1 - GLA ROATH (c1850)
By 1851 i believe that William had not long died from Cholera & there is nothing further on them as a
family, perhaps Mary died & the boys, so say disappeared to
Bwllch-Y-Cwm,Eglwysilan,this is on the 1881 census & this house stayed in
the family untill the late 1970's
John,Sarah's brother,we think was the one that lived in Bwllch-Y-Cwm ,but after the
1881 census there in nothing further on him or Bwllch-Y-Cwm or the rest of
his family. John married Amelia Morgan in or around the 1870's & they had one child we know of, Margaret Blanche Rowland[s] who was born in 1885. John's other brothers remain a mystery,i have been told that one of them, went into the forest & died, but that is all that is known.
I have tried to find more on Mary, the mother,as she came from the Hedger/Hudgins
family, perhaps they came from St Mellons or the surrounding areas of St Mellons, but after years of
searching, nothing.
I did check out the informant from the birth cert of Sarah, but not really
knowing who she,or her hubby is, then i'm at a loss.
I have traced Sarah from birth to the grave & have a few photo's of her,but
i am stuck on the rest of her family.
I would be grateful for any help in tracing Mary, William & the rest of the family.
Thanks.
Kaz.

I am researching a MORGAN family in Risca as part of my search for my great-grandfather William Morgan, born about 1850, apparently died some time 1877-1881, place of birth and death unknown.
Below are two census references for this family. I have more details of their later movements. Two brothers moved to Cardiff, as did a sister, Mary, who married a John CHAPPELL. The youngest brother joined the railways and moved first to Trevethin then to Carmarthen. The mother, one brother and the youngest sister stayed in Risca.

I have traced most family members through to 1901but have been unable to trace William Alfred after 1861, which is hopeful. There are several other encouraging coincidences.
If anyone is researching any members of this family I would be glad to hear from them.
The FHS MIs for the church and chapels in Risca seem to show no burials from this family. Was there also a civil cemetery there? Or in Machen?

I asked about a lookup in the 1841 Charles Boucher HOWELLS this morning and received a reply from Keith almost immediately! So, I thought I would give it another go!
I am looking for more information on the family of Charles Boucher HOWELLS who married Jessie JONES on 21st March 1833 in Abergavenny.
They had a daughter, Jessi, in Neville Street, Abergavenny on 24th July 1841. Charles died in Flannel St., Abergavenny on 4th March 1858. If anyone has access to the 1851 census then I would be very grateful if they could send me the entry for any matches for Frogmore St., Rother St., Mill St. or Flannel St.
Thanks,

Hello listers,
I've been off the list for a while but have found some new info on my
HANNAH JOHNSON who was residing in Penalt in 1841 age 60. She wasn't found
in the 1851 Wales census. I thought she had probably died and never
checked the 1861 census for her until recently. Almost certain it's she
listed as mother-in-law, b. abt 1781, Monkton, Somerset, Eng.
Head - Thomas JOYNES b. abt 1822 Newland, Gloucestershire
Wife - Hannah JOYNES b. abt 1818 St. Weonards, Herefordshire, Eng.
They're in Monmouth, Monmouthshire.
All of Hannah Johnson's children were b. St. Weonards, Hereforshire
including a dau, Hannah bap 1816
and
A Thomas & Hannah Joynes were witnesses to one of her grandson's marriages
at the Baptist Chapel in Monmouth.
I would like to find Hannah's burial site. Does anyone have access to the
Burial Transcriptions indexes? (There are 2 possible deaths for a Hannah
Johnson in Monmouth in 1864 & 1868 which I have to check out.) Her husband
Edward Johnson d. 1845 is buried at the Whitebrook Baptist Chapel but she
does not appear to be with him. Any help or suggestions would be greatly
appreciated. Thank you.

Hi Linda
Have you looked at the pages for Pwlldu on my site? There is a page there that I have especially for the residents of Pwlldu. I have not got your Aubreys on there , but if you would like to have them added re-send the informatin and I can do that for you. The link is: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~gwilliamsurname/The_residents_of...
My Gwilliams lived at Pwlldu from around 1870's till the hamlet was abandoned and left derilict, it was finally "destroyed" in the early 1960's. My father used to play there as a boy, whilst visiting his Grandmother. It is such a shame that the hamlet is no longer there! It would have been great if they had been able to re-do the houses and made them habitable, like thy did with the row of houses further down the valley at Cwmavon! The pub is still there, its called "The Lamb & Fox". I have had a few conversations with the owner, regarding Pwlldu, but he was a bit reticent about talking about it. He said that when the "Time Team" were there they were badgering him for information and he had refused to give them any!! Needless to say I thought it best not to persue that line of enquiry with him. Nice enough chap all the same, and he did say that he remembered my father and his twin brother playing there!
There are quite a few interesting photos and drawings of Pwlldu on his walls and they were fascinating!! Definately worth a look next time you are there!
Kind regards
Hazel

Hello! I know that Rees is a very common name, but I am trying to locate my
g-g-grandmother's family. Ellen REES was born to Mr. REES and Esther (her
maiden name may have been DREW). Esther remarried to John HOOK. In 1871,
the HOOK family was living in Mynyddyslwyn. Can anyone do a lookup in the
1851 census for the Rees family or tell me the record group and folio
numbers for Mynyddyslwyn? Below is the information I have on the family
group for now. Thank you!

Hi everyone,
I've been tracing a family line down in gosport, Hampshire, and have found
that one of the children was born in "Llandover" which I presume to be
Llanover, as in the 1901 census her birthplace is said to be Blaenavon. Her
name was Isabella Burrough, her parents being Thomas James
Burrough and Frances (formerly Albery). Thomas (or James as he was more
often seen on censuses) was from Devon, and Frances was born in Gosport. In
the 1901 census, thomas was recorded as a road labourer with the Beltrader
corporation, and so I was wondering whether maybe he was employed on similar
work in the early 1870's around Blaenavon.
I looked at Free BMD and found the index for Isabella, and also other
indexes for
another 2 possible children, Thomas and Alice:
Thomas burrough
death Dec qtr 1871 11a 46 (age 0)
Alice Burrough
birth March qtr 1873 11a 70
Isabella Burrough
birth June qtr 1874 11a 71
Alice Burrough
death Dec qtr 1875 11a 38 (aged 2)
In both the 1871 and 1881 censuses, Thomas and Frances were at Gosport. I
was wondering if maybe someone had access to these children's christenings
and deaths in the Llanover or Blaenavon parish records? If so, would they be
so kind as
to share the details with me please? I would be eternally grateful to have
this info.
Kind regards to all,
Jon

In 1844, Francis Izant PARSONS died in Bristol at the age of 40, leaving his widow Ursula (nee BURR) to raise four children. Francis Jnr and Robert Burr PARSONS migrated to Melbourne, Australia in 1855. William Henry PARSONS married Julia Jenkins and by 1861 moved to Newport Monmouthshire, where he was a Tanner and Currier. ( In the 1861 census, mother Ursula and sister Mary Ann lived with them).
The 1861-1881 census show that William and Julia also had four children - Henry Frank, Emily R, Ada M and Julia R. In 1891, after William's death in 1890, the whole family moved to Greta House, Malpas.
By 1901, Henry Frank PARSONS was a physician and surgeon in Westbury-on-Trim, and living with him at The Heath, Hazelwood Rd, was his mother, and his three unmarried sisters (aged 38, 35 and 33). This seems likely to be where this family ends - but if by some chance Dr Henry or his sisters, married and had children, I would love to hear from anyone.

Does anyone have this family connected to their family ?
Mary Ann PARSONS (b Bristol, 1831) and Rowland ALGER (b St Ishmaels Pembrokeshire, 1828) married in Newport MON.
Rowland was an ironmonger, and died 1881-1891. Rowland may have had a brother, Thomas Alger, who was also an ironmonger and lived in Gloucester in 1881.
Their children were: Edith Elizabeth 1866-, Francis James 1869-, Charles E 1870-, Louisa M 1873-, Thomas E 1874- , George V 1880-, Lucy 1877-, Mary J 1878- and Mildred C H 1883-, and Rowland William (1879-1880).
From 1881 to 1901 census, they lived at Laughton House, Palmyra Place, Newport.
Charles Alger married Mary, before 1901, and Lucy married Frederick J Smith in 1899 and moved to London. In 1901, Mildred was a pupil in Newport, and Mary J Alger an assistant teacher in Middlesex.
