Hi,
Can anyone please tell me why I cannot find my Montague family members in
the 1901 Census.
John Frederick Montague (born c1858 in Plymouth) married Bessie/Elizabeth
Tysoe (born 1867 in Chatham) in 1885 in Cardiff and shortly moved to Aveline
Street in Newport, Mon. They were still at that address in 1891 Census and
were still there in the early months of 1894.
The only other information I have is that John Frederick Montague died in
Cardiff in 1913.
Any advice will be appreciated.

Hi Ken
I'm trying to find your Montagues in 1901
Can you tell me what John Montague's occupation was and also if they had any
children by 1901 , if so , what were their names / year of birth ?
Regards
Carol
Marion
Thanks for the look up - this is the family - the other Thomas I looked into
and found he married the wrong Lady (well, from my point of view).
I can now check them off on the 1901.

Dear Margaret,
I know this is not what you were asking but it shows an address which might
help someone find the family in one of the census's.I have this entry in my
notes I transcribed from The Baptism Abergavenny year 1833
Sept 23rd 1833 Anthony son of Anthony and Theresa YORATH abode Frogmore St
,Yeoman .
Looking at the dates of the burial for Anthony it seems seems strange he
was Baptised a day after he was supposed to be buried.
Could it be that there were two Anthony's.? Maybe they had twins?

Subject: ANTHONY YORATH AND FAMILY
Dear Listers, I am seeking information about the above. He lived in
Abergavenny and by the 1841 census he would have had his third wife,
Margaret, living with
him, and his daughter, Mary, aged c. 36. A child, Anthony, of his second
marriage, was buried inSt. Mary's, Abergavenny on 22nd September, 1833,
aged 4 days, and there is a
referencein the NBI to Edward Yorath buried on 9th November, 1827, aged 6
days, also
in St. Mary's.Whilst I know that the child Anthony is theirs, I have, so
far, failed to
prove that Edward was also. Has anyone access to the census returns for
Abergavenny for 1841, 1851,and 1861, and to the Parish Registers for St.
Mary's, which would provide the
details Iam seeking. His third wife, Margaret, did not die until
1866. Any help
would be appreciated. Margaret Sanders from Wiltshire
To all the listers who responded to my request for information on Sarah Ann Williams and family, many thanks, now I believe I can go forward.
Ray Lloyd.
I am new to the list, and would like to post my family for whom I can find
no info.
John COLES lived at 49 Commercial Street Newport, his wife Elizabeth
Susannah Coles nee Jones, they married 14 September 1851 in Newport.
Children; John born 31 January 1852, Elizabeth Susannah born 7 March 1854
(my ggrandmoth). Elizabeth died sometime pre 1859 as her father
John remarried a Mary Ann ?Williams in 1860 and had 2 children.
I have John & Mary Ann COLES plus 3 children John, Frederick born 1864 and
Ada born 1866 on the 1871 Census at 49 Commercial Street, Newport, John a
Tobacconist and Hairdresser. Mary Ann gives her bithplace as Abergavenny.
In 1881 Census the only one there is Ada Coles a niece of the head of the
house.
A lookup for the 1861 census woul be great. Also any information re this
family.
Thanks
Janette

DearVicky, Thank you for the information. Yes, it is a bit odd that the
child, Anthony, was buried the day before he was baptised!!! It may be that
the dates are wrong. From the burial, he was 4 days old, so he would have been
born on the 18th, and baptised on the 23rd. Perhaps the burial date was 27th
not 22nd. Perhaps anyone on the List with access to the St. Mary's records
could check the date of burial. I am hoping that there
is SKS who can solve my problem. Many thanks. Margaret Sanders from

Hello
I have been looking for the birth of my G/dad Ernest Frank Davies(as
some of you may be aware), with no luck, so far. However, I have found ,in
the 1901 census, one who has possibilities........ok, I admit it's a long
shot! But I have nothing to lose.
Problem......in 1901 his birth place is given as Barry, Glamorgan.
On Free BMD and 1837 online there is no Ernest Davies with that birth place
for the date (1883/84)
Could someone please enlighten me as to area(s) Barry would have
come under at that time? Was it Cardiff, or somewhere else.
Thanks in anticipation, Roy Davies
There are some obvious flaws in the Ancestry Index. I cross searched for
Mary Williams, 39, born Penhow and the family popped up. When I repeated
the search for a Mary Williams living in Llanvarches, it came up empty. In
fact no one comes up for Llanvarches!

Could I ask a favour please of anyone who has access to the 1891 census -
specifically for the Pontypool area.
On the 1901 there is a THOMAS BIBEY age 18 shown with quite a large family -
the head of the family appear to be Issac and Ester Bibey -
Could someone have alook when they've a minute to see if they were there in
1891 ?
Much appreciated .....

Can anyone help me?
I am trying to discover where is - or was, Nelson Street, Newport, Mon
It is not listed by
http://www.gazetteer-wales.co.uk/home.htm
Yet in 1881 the census shows a Great Grandfather (Edwin Jones) living at 37 Nelson Street, Newport with his wife (Charlotte) and children Margaret, Thomas, Edith, Mildred, Maud.
Was it renamed or was it victim to urban regeneration?
Thanks,

Hi Glyn Hatherall,
I would like to thank you for your very kind help regarding FOTHERGILL'S in
Newport. The postings on the list a while ago where actually from me, so I
am still hoping to connect to someone else who has connections with the
FOTHERGILL'S in Newport. So here's hoping for something in the future!!
Many thanks,
