I'll send you a link to what I think is the right image, Adrian. The surname is
actually shown as PERRY and Jenkin's birth parish is hard to read. He has also
been indexed as "Enkin".
But, apart from that, it seems to match!
The reference would be RG10/5348 Folio 27b (there's no folio number shown on the
image).
Best wishes

Do you know when the work is starting? I would like to photograph the
gravestones site before the graves are destroyed, problem is - I won't be
back in the UK until end of November. Anyone fancy photographing the
headstones if the timescales are such that I won't be able to get there?

Wow. I'd love to follow up on the couple and see what happened later. One
has to speculate if there was some sort of motivation, or were they really
in love.
Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher can't even touch this one!
Thanks for sharing.

Dear List,
Does anyone on the List have information re: the ownership/activities at
Tabor Chapel in Maesycwmmer? The chapel and property (with its surrounding
graveyard) were recently sold. I have heard that the new owner's intent is
to create a children's play area with inside and outside activities. Since
most of the outside area is the burial ground, it seems likely that
memorials may be moved/destroyed. If this is the case, does anyone know how
(if at all) I can request that the memorials be placed around the walls,
rather than destroyed? While Tabor is a relatively small burial ground, many
of those interred are members of my family - from the 1800's to the early
20th century. I am contacting the Land Registry to locate and contact the
owner, as well.
I appreciate any assistance listers may provide. Thank you!
Sandi
If you are having difficulty finding Edmund in the Llanover area he might have been living and working on an other of the Llanover estates.
The village of Chapel of Ease Abercarn was part of the Lllanover Estates in the 1830s and consisted of the Main house, Abercarn House, an estate managers house, High Meadow House in modern times I'm not sure what it was back then and a small village, Chapel of Ease.

Hello List
I am new to this list, having only just discovered one of the familiey members I am researching was born in Monmouth.
All I know about Wales is that it is that bit of land attached to the side of England and that Elvis Presley is reported to have Welsh connections.
The family I am after is John and Sarah Critchley. All I know about them is that John was a farmer and that their daughter, also Sarah, was born about 1810 at Monmouth. This date is taken from the year of death and her age on the death certificate but another date being offered is 1804.
Sarah married George Nelson Silvester 8 April, 1837 at Penkridge, Staffordshire. In the 1841 and 1851 census they lived at Church St, Penkridge.
Their children are: Ann b ?, Mary b 1837 Penkridge, Sarah Jane b 1840, William Horatio b 1841 Bilston, John Thomas b 1844 (have 2 places of birth for him - Penkridge & Merthan, Wales), George Albert b 1847 Sedgley.
The family, minus Ann, came to Australia in 1852. Haven't found out what happened to Ann yet.
Any information about this family would be greatly appreciated.

Hello
If I want the Tredegar and Nantyglo parts of the 1841 census, what would
they come under please? Would they both come under Bedwellty?
I would be grateful if someone could advise.

Elizabeth Annie was born in December, 1858, so the marriage would have
been c. 1857. I found a marriage in Abergavenny for Jacob Lewis, only to
find his wife was Sarah Jones, not Elizabeth Jones.!! Can anyone help to
find the marriage, and also the baptism of Elizabeth? Your help would be
greatly appreciated.
Hi Margaret,
One thing I think I should point out is that even though Elizabeth Annie was
born in 1858 you should NOT assume that the marriage of her parents took
place the year before.
Much as we want our ancestors to be perfect they were just like us and there
were many many *7 month babies*. There were also far more couples living
together without benefit of Clergy than we can imagine.
When looking for the marriage I would begin at the birthdate of the child
and work back until the parents have ages in single figures and then start
again and this time work forward. If you don't find it on the General
Register Office Index (GRO) that still doesn't mean it didn't happen just
that it might be one of the ones that has been "lost" from the records.
As for the Sarah Jones and Elizabeth Jones, well they could be the same
person but only more detective work will find that out.

Hi Bev,
No doubt fellow listers will give you some insights into the long and very
interesting history of Wales and its ancient language.
Here are some snippets about Monmouth from 'The River Wye: A Pictorial
History'. This book was published in 2004 by Phillimore & Co.
www.phillimore.co.uk As I wrote the book, I am not infringing copyright by
quoting at length from it :-)
Monmouth's five-arched Wye Bridge survived the 1795 flood, but the
structure we see today is the result of widening both sides of the bridge
in 1879. The original early 17th-century arches still exist beneath the
present arches. The town is famous for another bridge, the medieval Monnow
Bridge with its picturesque gatehouse. This crosses the Monnow, a tributary
of the Wye. Monmouth is nearly enclosed by the rivers Wye and Monnow and
its English name is derived from the latter river. In Welsh, the town is
called Trefynwy.
Soon after the Norman Conquest, William fitz Osbern built a castle
overlooking the Monnow. Renowned as the birthplace of the future Henry V,
Monmouth Castle was in ruins by the time late 18th-century tourists were
making 'The Wye Tour' ...
The Beaufort Arms, where Lord Nelson stayed, was one of the town's coaching
inns in Agincourt Square. Another was the King's Head where Charles I is
said to have slept during the Civil War. Monmouth's inhabitants must have
been very thirsty, in days past, as the town boasted a great number of
drinking places ...
In centuries past, the town was renowned for the making of Monmouth caps,
warm coverings for the head. Fluellen, in William Shakespeare's Henry V,
mentioned Welshmen who were 'wearing leeks in their Monmouth caps'...
The chief trade of Monmouth, in the late 18th century, was with Bristol via
the River Wye. Then, trows sailed regularly every fortnight in 'spring
week' from Monmouth to Bristol and Gloucester...
Hope this gives you a better idea of the birthplace of your ancestress,
Sarah Critchley. Today, Monmouth is a lovely old border town where the road
signs are bilingual. This must come as quite a surprise to visitors
entering the town from the English side who are used to signs in one
language.

time period? Lewis and Elizabeth had a son Thomas born circa 1780 Caldicot
other possible siblings include Lewis and Betzey. Elizabeth LLOYD was said
to have been buried Shirenewton 16 Jan 1825.

Hi Listers!! Having obtained the birth certificate of their first child,
Elizabeth Annie, I am searching for the marriage of the above. From the 1861
census, Elizabeth Lewis (nee Jones) was born in Draethen, Glam c. 1838.
According to the 1881 census, she was born c. 1838 in Machen, Mon. I know that
these places were just across the border from each other. Elizabeth Annie was
born in December, 1858, so the marriage would have been c. 1857. I found a
marriage in Abergavenny for Jacob Lewis, only to find his wife was Sarah Jones,
not Elizabeth Jones.!! Can anyone help to find the marriage, and also the
baptism of Elizabeth? Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Sharyn, (and all listers)
I am usually asking questions about my MORRIS ancestors on this list but I
have a cousin who is currently researching another branch of our family in the
Risca/Mynyddyslwyn area, and the name she is working on is LOYD or LLOYD.
One or two of her inquiries have taken her to Langeview, an area of
Monmouthshire which is not far from Caldicot which is the area you are asking about.
We also have a Lewis Lloyd who was baptised in about 1794. Obviously not the
same one that you mention but there could be a connection in some way. I
will ask my cousin to keep an eye out for your Lewis and if she sees anything I
will let you know.
Our LOYD/LLOYD ancestors so far:
Mary LOYD - baptised 1798. She had siblings:
Lewis LOYD - baptised 1794
John LOYD - baptised 1796
Charles LOYD -baptised 1804 who we believe married Mary MILES of Llanhilleth
Sarah LOYD - baptised 1805
William LOYD - baptised 1809
All the above were children, (we believe), of
John LOYD/LLOYD and Mary THOMAS who were married 15/JULY/ 1793
We think that Mary THOMAS was baptised on 13/OCTOBER/1772
and that John LOYD was buried in Risca on 25/APRIL/1837 aged 69
I hope this is of some use to you, Sharyn, and I hope also that someone on
the list may have some knowledge of this family I have outlined above.
Best Wishes,
Judith
Hello
I am new to the list and I am looking for a Catherine LEWIS who married
Thomas Henry JONES. Their daughter Pauline was born 1923 and the family were
living at 44 Alma Street, Abertillery, and I know that Thomas was born around
1887. Catherine was married previously to a Mr REARDON. If this rings any
bells with anyone I would be most grateful for any help.
