Hello,
Is there anyone on the list please, that could give me advice on finding a
record of passage for an Ancester who left Blackwood Monmouthshire Wales to
live in Pennsylvannia USA, possibly 1881 was the year that he went overseas.
Woulsd appreciate any feedback
Regards Barbara.
Hi List
I have a marrige certificate and it states that the marriage was held in Holy Trinity in the Parish of... I shall spell it out as it looks on the certificate.
PLLGUEALLY. It is in the registration of Newport.
The adress of the groom is Dolphin Street.
Does this help?
Any information would be gratefully appreciated.

I think the location is Pillgwenlly. This is a message to the list I sent on
5th September which might be of interest to you.
Unfortunately I didn't get a response at the time, but perhaps there might be
a new lister who will have a photo of the Church for both of us to share

This is a copy of the message sent to the list on 5th September
My GGGrandparents were married at the above Church in December 1865. They
were living nearby at Baldwin Street at the time.
We made a flying visit to the area with the aid of a 1917 OS Map and as
expected much of the old housing and a number of Streets had disappeared.
Surprisingly 24 Baldwin Street was still there, although we were disappointed
to find that a modern block of flats had replaced the Church.... probably in
the last few years or so.
Has anyone got a photo of the church please ? We have done a Google search
without success.
Regards to everyone

Hello list members,
I would like to thank all those that answered my email regarding on how to
find out about phone numbers in America.
With the assistance of a lady and her friend overseas, I have located where
my Ancester was living.
Regards Barbara
Try <switchboard.com> or go to Google and put in "white pages" in quotes
for other personal phone-number providers. ("yellow pages" will get you
businesses, organizations and the like)
Note that a number of the folks who "placed" family info on the LDS
sites had contributed the information to their church records as much as
25 or 30 years ago or more (long before computers!) And they may have
gone to their heavenly reward in the meantime, I have found. Don't be
disappointed if you can't locate the person in question.

Dear Listers,
The subjects of this week's 'Retrospective Images of Wales' features, just
uploaded onto my website, are:

former seat of the Duff-Gordon family. This feature was first shown on
'Images of Wales' in January 1998 (ten pictures).
2. Swyffrydd-fach Farm near Crumlin in the county of Monmouthshire.
This two-page feature was first shown on 'Images of Wales' in June 2002
(eleven pictures).

Dear Listers,
I've just uploaded a new set of seventeen 'Images of Wales' photographs onto
my website.
This latest feature, spread over two webpages, illustrates some of the more
rural and tranquil parts of the ancient parish of Llangyfelach, north of
Swansea in the county of Glamorgan.
Among the subjects included are: St Cyfelach's Church, Llangyfelach village
green, Bethel Calvinistic Methodist Chapel, Llwyn-y-domen Farm, Pont
Llechart, Craig-cefn parc, Capel Gellionnen, and distant views of Llangiwg
parish.
My photographs of Llangyfelach were taken in April 2002 as part of an
extensive photographic commission.
'Images of Wales' is at http://home.clara.net/wfha/walespic/
Best wishes,
John

Hello Mary,
Thank you for your email , I have no idea wether or not this Elizabeth
Cobley would be related to my family, the Elizabeth Cobley that I have in my
Ancestral family was my GGGrandmother.
I know that some went to the USA, and I am trying to contact someone who
placed details of my Family on the LDS site, but there was no email address
only a postal address of the gentleman in America.
I phoned America twice this evening, but was not able to locate a telephone
exchange that would enlighten me on how I would be able to obtain a
telephone number for someone living in America.
If there is anyone on the list, that could tell me how I could find what we
know as BT in the UK in America, would appreciate it many thanks
Regards Barbara
Hello list members,
I would like to ask if there is anyone on the list that is researching
Cobley.
Elizabeth Cobley (married name Smith)
born Blackwood Monmouth 1834,
Would appreciate feed back, if there is anyone that has come across
Elizabeth in their research, many thanks.
Regards Barbara
Hi all
The graveyard at Betws Newydd has been photographed and transcribed and is
now available for your viewing pleasure at:

However, a lot of these stones are well worn and are very difficult to read.

Dear Bryan,
I'm sure I won't be the only Lister to point out that Monmouthshire was
never part of England.
For a proper account of the background to this unfortunate myth, visit Glyn
Hale's website at http://halefamily.net/gwent.html
Kind regards,
John

Hi
I got my grandfather's birth certificate from Coleford Gloucester
this for a birth in Redbrook Newland 1873. The family
were in the Tin Plate Industry.
As stated Newland came under Monmouth when the county was
part of England. But since the English threw them back
the records have been split. Originally the request was bounced around
Gloucester, Abergavenny, Newport and Lydney before Coleford
claimed the honours.
regards
Bryan

Cheers, Mark!
I had a look on "Old Maps" and saw what looked like one towards the
north, but a building towards the southern drive entrance wasn't named.
From what little I found about Llantarnam Abbey at around the 1881
Census time, I wasn't at all sure that the owners would have been
needing a Gardener / Domestic Servant ie it didn't sound as if the
building was particularly active and alive at that time. (Maybe I read
the brief history wrongly - it wouldn't be surprising :))

I am researching my family and am looking for details of the family of
WILLIAM PHILLIPS LEWIS born Pontnewynydd in 1842. Could anyone with access
to the 1851 census help me.
I have visited this area many times before realising that I had family
links - now retired in France near the Spanish border the opportunity to
visit the area has gone.
Hope some one can help

Hello :)
I'm pretty certain that the Bishop shown on the 1901 online census as FW
Bishop, aged 22, a Carpenter living at home with his father (Albert, of
Etchingham, Sussex, a Market Gardener - worker), and mother (Mary, of
Hurstmonceaux, Sussex) somewhere on Caerphilly Road (Census was at
Llantarnam ?) and the Frederick William Bishop shown on the 1881
Latter-Day CDs as 2 years old, living with Dad (Albert, of Etchingham,
Sussex, a Gardener/Domestic Servant) and mother (Mary - of
Hurstmonceaux, Sussex) at somewhere called Abbey Lodge (Census was at
Llanvihangel Llantarnam ?) is my Granddad (though I knew him as living
at The British, near Talywain / Talywaun, and working at the Lower
Navigation colliery.)
The reason I guess he's Granddad is because
(a) he's the right age and
(b) he's the only FW I can find at the right ages/times.
But ... is/was there a Caerphilly Road anywhere in what I'm supposing is
now the southern fringe of Cwmbran ? (Caerphilly itself is a goodly
distance away and doesn't seem "connected" in any way ... I can see the
virtue of a Newport Road, but Caerphilly ?)
Secondly, would it be reasonable to suppose that Abbey Lodge in the 1881
census might have something to do with Llantarnam Abbey, shown on
today's street map as near Llantarnam on the Caerleon side ?
With best wishes.

Hello Roy,
At Glamorgan archives in Cardiff, if you can prove that you are a descendent
of the person concerned, they will allow you to see the records. Cardiff
only make your ancestors records available by blocking off other details or
clamping closed those pages other than your ancestors - worth asking them if they
do that.

Hi,
My ancestor was in the asylum much earlier, 1867. His age was given but not
his date or place of birth.
