I am keen to follow up some new leads in the 1861 and 1871 Monmouthshire censuses.
All three commercial providers of census scans seem to be in pre-release mode on these two. Two of them are taking advance orders.
Does anyone happen to know which of them is nearest to completion?

Hello from Dunedin New Zealand.
Does anyone know how I could access the records 1840-60 of the English Baptist Chapel that was in Commercial Street, Newport.
Humphrey John and Catherine HARRHY were married there in 1842 and possibly children were baptised also.
I have a number of possible children and would like to be more certain before ordering certificates. Thank you.
Your help is appreciated.
Ernie Parker.
My great grandfather William Rowland was born at Henllys in 1842 and
baptised in Llantarnam but lived most of his life in Abercarn. His father
was Thomas Rowland, a shoemaker of Bassaleg.
If this looks like the W.R. you are interested in, I have a great deal of
information both about his antecedents and his descendants (of whom there
are a great many).

Hi List,
I am reposting my earlier (9 Aug) message in the absence of any response,
possibly due to the holiday period:
"There was a message, I think on the MONMOUTHSHIRE List, a little while ago
about a William ROWLAND, possibly of Marshfield. I've searched Archives
without success so if the correspondents read this perhaps they would get in
touch with me please.
I have been speaking with a descendent of a William ROWLAND ba. c 1780/90 at
St Mellons which borders Marshfield. There are family connections in Merthyr
and Cardiff.
Thanks,
Peter

Dear Barbara,
Thank you very much for your kind remarks about the latest photographic
feature on my website. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
I agree that the Monmouthshire List is enjoyable, helpful, and friendly. I'm
subscribed to eight different mailing lists covering different parts of
Wales, and they are all equally enjoyable. Also, as you probably realise, my
website is available to anyone, not just members of mailing lists.
Best wishes,
John

Can I just say thanks, once again, to John for continuing to let us share
his beautiful photographic research.
This is a great list to be part of (forgive the grammar!)

Dear Listers,
I've just uploaded a new set of twenty-five 'Images of Wales' photographs
onto my website.
This latest feature, spread over three webpages, illustrates a recent visit
to Rhosili on the beautiful Gower Peninsula in the county of Glamorgan.
Enjoy stunning views of the majestic Rhosili Bay, its rugged limestone
cliffs, and the remarkable Worms Head promontary.
Visit the charming Rhosili parish church and explore its connections with
Captain Scott's ill-fated 1912 expedition to the South Pole.
The photographs of Rhosili were taken just four days ago.

I'm searching for families who may have migrated from Monmouthshire to
Portage County, Ohio, specifically Palmyra in the 1870s. Palmyra, although
small and quite rural, had a substantial Welsh population that appears to
have been substantially augmented by the arrival of coal mining families
(mine included) in the 1870s.
My family is Evan Davi(e)s and wife Elizabeth (Williams) arrived in Palmyra
about 1875 with sons John and Morgan.
Hello All,
If possible is there anyone who could look up the 1851 census for a BAILEY
family for me living near Mynyddislwyn.
The family should consist of :
Mother LEAH aged abt 41, born Llornfoista
Father possibly JESSE ?
Son JESSE aged abt 12 born Blackwood
Daughter MARY ELIZA aged abt 11 born Blackwood
and maybe more children?
Much appreciated,
Best wishes,
Denise

This week's 'Retrospective Images of Wales' features, just uploaded onto my

These two features were first shown on 'Images of Wales' in February 1998
(sixteen pictures).

Hi, everyone.
My wife's grandmother, Elizabeth Emily ARKWELL, is missing from the family
who were living at Shirehampton, Bristol in 1891. At the time, Elizabeth was
7 years of age. We cannot find her staying with any of her Arkwell relatives
in other parts of South Gloucestershire and wonder if she was staying with
her mother's relatives in Caldicot.
Her mother was Sarah Ann ADAMS, born 3rd July 1859 Caldicot, daughter of
George ADAMS and Elizabeth POLLARD who were married on 5th April 1859.
Sometime prior to 1882, Sarah moved to Little Sodbury Rectory in South
Gloucestershire to go into service for the then incumbent Rev. Hasluck; from
whence she married Stephen ARKWELL in Feb. 1882. It is possible that George
Adams had died by this time as the 1881 census has an Elizabeth living with
a son Nathaniel at West End Caldicot.
If any kind seeker with access to an indexed 1891 could tell us if our
Elizabeth Emily is with her grandmother in 1891 we would be very grateful.
Also, any previous census information on George and Elizabeth would be a
great help in giving us Sarah's siblings. We believe George's parents were
Thomas Adams and Elizabeth Gale (also of Caldicot)
And finally - where is the record office holding census fiche for Caldicot.
This could be an excuse for travel to 'foreign parts'.....
Many thanks for reading all of this.

Hi I would appreciate a search of one or both of these censuses for a James
JONES and family who were living at Worral Hill West Dean in the 1881
census. In that year James was 40 and Ann 33(though this maybe a mis
transcription) They had 2 daughters by 1871 Elizabeth (3) and Harriet(1)
thank you Sylvia
