Hello Listers,
I hope someone can help with census entries for the above Anne Davies,
daughter of Daniel Davies and Ann. I have Ann, now married to Thomas Morgan in 1881
living in Blaenllechau, in the Rhondda with a daughter Margaret Ann Morgan,
aged 2 years.
I have found in a roundabout way, that there was a marriage of Thomas Morgan
and Ann Davies in June 1878. According to three census entries, Ann was born
in Cwmbran, Monmouthshire about 1857. Thomas Morgan was born in Breconshire,
Llangattock about 1853. I will send for the marriage, but I was hoping to
find the couple, or at least Ann in an earlier census in or near Cwmbran to add
to the evidence.
I don't have census CDs for Monmouthshire, or I would try and find her
myself.
Also, could someone please tell me if someone living in Cwmbran, would marry
in Pontypool? Or at least would the marriage have been registered there.?
Thank you very much for your patience. I have very little to work on at present.

Does anyone have access to 1851/61/71 census of Bassaleg (possibly Rhiwderin or Rogerstone) or records of Bethesda chapel, Bassaleg?
A friend of mine who does not have a computer is looking for information on William REES, carpenter, and his wife Mary (b abt 1815/6 in 'Glamorgan'). They had a daughter Maria born about 1852/3/4 and probably other children including a William and possibly a Martha Ann.
William REES senior was deceased by the time of Maria's marriage in 1874.
Any assistance would be gratefully received.
Jeff

I'm sorry if I gave the impression that I was researching the Powell line. My main line of research in Cwmyoy is Harrison and Phillips, although I knew there was a Harrison/Powell connection somewhere and I think that Pam supplied the answer to that.
However, for Graham, researching in Blaenavon and for Mick, researching in Garndiffaith and for anyone else researching in the Eastern Valley of Monmouthshire, I can recommend someone who might be able to help if you don't mind making a small donation to the voluntary upkeep of an old church graveyard.
Richard Roynon has many church and census records for the whole area, including Blaenavon and Garndiffaith. He has helped me a lot with my own research. You can contact him for details at RRoynon(a)aol.com

Dear Listers, I am new to this list, but hope that someone can help me with
the above.
He married Sophia who was born c. 1811 at Chepstow, and they had two
children, John
Arthur b. 1850 at Usk, Mon., and Julia M. b. 1853 at Usk. Mon. I have found
the family in 1881 and 1901, but have no information for the yearlier years.
I do not know to what extent the censuses for Monmouthshire have been
indexed. Any help would be appreciated. Regards, Margaret Sanders from
Wiltshire.

Hello Graham,
My Powell connection was to my Harrison line but it's the Harrisons that I am actually researching.
I do actually have a Phillips line from Blaenavon but I do not have the names Daniel or George. My Phillips were from the Cwmyoy/Penrhos area as opposed to Skenfrith/Usk.
I will keep your email handy and, If the above names come up, I will certainly let you know.
Good Luck

Hi everyone,
My Welsh side of the family were all staunch Baptists and I need a little help with this. At the begining of the 19thC how old would a Baptist child be when they were baptised?
I know these days young children in the faith are dedicated and not baptised until much older.
Many thanks
AV
Can I remind everyone that telling the list you are going on holiday is
not a good idea. read the welcome message that you received when you
joined the list for details of how to subscribe and unsubscribe and just
do it, don't tell anyone. When you come home and rejoin the list you can
look at the archives to see if you missed anything exciting <grin>.

Could someone please check any census available late 1800's to 1920's for the Royall family.
I am looking for info on James (Taffy) Royall & Elizabeth Anne who lived in Monmouthshire & emigrated to Australia in 1928. I assume James would have been born around 1880's.
I know one daughter, Gwynneth Elizabeth was born in 1912 in Fleur-de-lys, which I believe is near Blackwood in the Parish of Mynyddislwyn, county Monmouthshire, now known as Gwent.
There were other children of the marriage: Phyllis H, Christina Doris, Gladys Martha & a son, initial W. I don't know their dates of birth but believe they were all born in Wales.
Any information would be truly appreciated.
Thank you, Cheryl Clarke
A quick check of the 1901 census index shows only 7 James ROYALLs, and of
those, only 3 are in Wales (none in Monmouthshire, however). They range in
age from 19 to 45. I chose to then look at all ROYALLs in Ystradyfodwg,
Glamorganshire, where a 29-year old James lived. There is a 29-year old
Elizabeth who also lives in Ystradyfodwg. There is no way to know if these
two are in the same household without looking at the census images.
Because there aren't that many James ROYALLs, it's worth a try at paying for
the views, if you know any other information about James or Elizabeth (place
of birth, profession, etc.) to help you identify them. (Presuming they are
together in 1901.) The James who is 29 is a coal hewer.
