RE: Press Gang

I would say that this would have made the National papers. I have recently
been looking at the Times around that period and have come across several
cases of fights with press gangs. Alternatively to the National papers the
local papers would have the reports.
By the way my great uncle Edward Sanders was the Fire Officer at Manly for
some years. He died in the 1950s.

Subject: Press Gang
Folklore has it in my family, that about 1842 in Bedwellty, miners were
having lunch or at a break, when a Press Gang from the Kings Army came in
and ordered all the able bodied men to stand to attention.
The miners objected, a fight broke out and the miners overwhelmed the Press
Gang and killed them.
The story goes on to say the miners all left town to avoid hanging, and
travelled to the USA etc to escape capture.
Where can I validate or disprove this story?
There must be records of this sort of crime.
