I am a new subscriber and am trying to find information about the HEARN family of Newport, which is connected with my husband's line.
All I have is the marriage of THOMAS HEARN to MARIA WILLIAMS on Feb. 3rd 1835 at USK, Monmouth. Their daughter ELIZABETH appears with them in the 1861 census in London, Chelsea St. Luke's. They are aged 44 and he is given as a Blacksmith, and ELIZABETH is aged 23 and a Dressmaker. All three have their place of birth as Mon Newport. In the next year, Elizabeth married my husband's gt-grandfather George Joseph Broom. I have yet to find Elizabeth's birth and further information about Thomas and Maria.
If anyone can help, I would be extremely grateful.

Is there any one out there that lives in the Newport area

I am researching the Webb family of Blaina, originally of Forest of Dean. I have them on an 1881 census and 1891 census but I need the information off the 1871 census. If a kind soul, out there somewhere, is plodding about the 1871 census of Bedwelty, Blaina, Wales and happens to run across my family, I would really appreciate the information.
The names are as follows:
George Webb, head of household
Eliza, wife
Some of the children are George, Fred, Lewis, Dinah, Fanny, Amy and Jane and possibly another Eliza.
My connection is to the child Dinah, she being my great-grandmother.
Any info at all would be greatly appreciate.
Thank you,
Melissa Brinkley
Hello to everyone and Mark,
Glad to say that Richard and myself are still alive and kicking.
Apologies to anyone who has been trying to contact either myself or Richard
on the old E Mail address of Phaeton54(a)aol.com. This address no longer applies
to our replies, although all the information and database material is still
relevant and there have been many additions to our archives on the Eastern
Valley of Gwent and its peripheral areas.
The E Mail address is either
Warren William Lewis (myself) on Gwentree74(a)aol.com
or Richard Roynon on RRoynon(a)aol.com
Sorry for all the confusion.
Best wishes

Dear Listers,
This week's 'Retrospective Images of Wales', just uploaded onto my
website, features:
1. The Old Town of Tenby, the Pembrokeshire seaside resort. This
feature was first shown on 'Images of Wales' in May 1998 (seven photos).
2. The Limestone Quarry at Penwyllt in an isolated part of the Upper
Swansea Valley, Breconshire. As well as an exploration of the quarry,
this feature includes photos of an old railway line, and an explanation
of the unlikely connection between Penwyllt and a 19th century Spanish
opera singer!!.
This feature was first shown on 'Images of Wales' in October 1998
(eleven pictures).

When I last went to Wales it was end June and 85F on the Severn Bridge, only
it got colder and colder and was dull and down to 60F driving in the clouds
and mist by the time we reached Aberystwyth, Stayed on a 'farm' just
outside the town to visit the Uni. of Wales to research ancestors' wills and
also some sight-seeing, seeing dolphins off Newquay - much too cold to
accompany my daughter out in a boat I sat in a coffee bar. Snowdonia was
equally cold. We watched Glastonbury Festival on TV which was baking over
in Somerset.
Suggest you bring normal clothing plus a thick winter hooded-sweater and
some very practical and comfortable shoes, especially if investigating old
churchyards where you may need to be completely covered against stinging
nettles and brambles (gloves may be useful). As someone else suggested if
you find you need much more then buy locally.
By the way I noticed one of 'my' churches is now marooned between the roads
off the two Severn bridges. Not sure if it is Llanvihangel Rogiet, Rogiet
or Undy Church, but the last time I had visited we had to park in a farm
yard with dogs and get permission to get through to the church which had a
notice saying it was unsafe (pigeons inside). Anyone know what state it is
in now?

True, but Arizonans begin to shiver when the temperatures drop
below about 27 degrees or so (that's 80 degrees for Americans),
while the happy Welsh would regard 18 degrees(about 65) as "a
fine, brisk day." Plus, clouds and rain are a possibility any time of
the year in Great Britain. I would recommend that any Arizonan
traveling to Great Britain bring along a long-sleeved shirt and a
sweater, just to be prepared. Once you've acclimated, it's lovely,
but there can be a shock at first.

Hi Listers,
Can SKS look up an Edmund William George in Ebbw Vale in the 1861 Census
Index. That's if there is one. He may have been married to an Elizabeth at this
time.
Does anyone know if there is an index to the 1871 Census for Ebbw Vale, and
where I could buy it.
Regards.

Hello
Apologies for the cross posting.
Does anyone have up-to-date contact details for Warren William Lewis ( Friends of Gwent Record Office ) or Richard Roynon?
I've found an interesting posting by them in RootsWeb archive.
I wish to reply to - unfortunately the e-mail address attached to it appears invalid - messages just bounce.

Could someone tell me what the weather is "Supposed" to be the third week in

enough for keeping warm? I'll bring an umbrella "incase"!!

Hi, wonder if someone can help me! I have been looking through the will of WH Morgan. it's dated 1947. Under what circumstances would he 'rent' part of the Tredegar Estate, for the princely sum of 15shillings.
WH is, I think my GG'uncle, probably the brother of Edgar Augustus Morgan, of 20 London St. Newport.
Thanks
Phyllis
I last corresponded with Richard Roynon several months
ago and at that time his email address was

Dear List,
You may remember my message a short while back about the marriage of James Henry JONES, Widower, aged 34 (son of James JONES, Collier) to Elizabeth
WALTERS [sic] in St. Paul's Church, Cwm in October 1901. The marriage certificate that I received from the register office in Tredegar gives James Henry JONES' residence as just 'Parish' which I thought was rather odd seeing as the bride's residence is given as 'This Parish'. With this in mind, I contacted the staff at the Gwent Record Office who checked the entry in the original register and sure enough my suspicions were confirmed when I was told that his residence is actually shown as 'Eglwysilan Parish' (I have contacted Tredegar Register Office to find out why this has happened). Eglwysilan, well known to me, is in Glamorgan as James' daughter Mabel was born in Pontypridd (in the sub-district of Eglwysilan) in 1904. I have not been able to find James Henry JONES in the 1901 census and probably never will, certainly not until the 1911 census is released anyway, so I cannot identify his birth certificate either as I have no idea where he was born and I have a few possible!
birth entries. I would also like to find out who his first wife was but this will be no easy task as I have no idea who she was, where they were married or when they were married. Is there anyone out there descended from James and his first wife?
Best wishes
James Phillips-Evans
