Hi All
Sorry for sending this to the list have problems with a couple of
lists that i subscribe to don't seem to be getting
mail form the Stafford list and i am trying to eliminate
Does anyone out there by any chance have access to the 1841 Census for
Monmouth and/or Caerleon, please?
I am keen to find out if there is any record of a MORGAN family being
resident in 'Inch Lane' - in either Monmouth or Caerleon - head of one or
more households would be either a Thomas MORGAN and/or a Charles (possibly
Charles William) MORGAN.
If this is not possible, could anyone please at least let me know if they
know where Inch Lane was in either Monmouth or Caerleon at that time?
I'd be most grateful.
Graham.
Hello from Qld. Australia
I am researching my family history and wonder if anyone is doing the HARRIS family.
My father was Daniel Benjamin Harris born 22 Oct.1907. His parents were James and
Sarah Eleanor Harris. My grandfather was a Collier and I believe he worked in the Six
Bells mine in Abertillery.

Dear Listers,
I've just uploaded a new set of thirteen 'Images of Wales' photographs
onto my website.
The subject is the historic Pontsarn Inn, Pontsarn Railway Station, and
the spectacular Pontsarn Viaduct in the parish of Vaynor (Y Faenor),
Breconshire.
'Images of Wales' is at http://home.clara.net/wfha/walespic/
This new feature on Pontsarn uses original photographs taken four days
ago.
Enjoy!! :o)
Best wishes,
John

Hi,Adrian. I am glad to hear that they are at least close enough that it is
possible for the family to have been in these same areas with out too much
traveling. I family information(extremely sketchy) my gggrandmother, Ann/e
James, was born Tal-y-Bont,BRE (census) and further mention with William
James(ggggrandfather) was Rhymney. I haven't found any information on the
family other than that. Mother is unknown. Is there a BMD listing pre 1837
for this area? Thanks a lot for your help. Sally

Hi Sally,
From Pam Thornbury's look-up in the 1851 Newport (St Woollos) census, I see
that Philip's daughters, 20-year-old Mary COLMAN (sic) and 17-year-old
Elizabeth COALMAN (sic), were born in Bitton, GLS.
The baptisms of Mary and Elizabeth COLEMAN, daughters of Philip and Sarah
COLEMAN, took place on the same day, 15th. December 1833 at Bitton, GLS.
The baptism of William COLEMAN, son of Philip and Sarah COLEMAN, took place
at Bitton on 22nd. January 1837.

Can anyone tell me our equivilant of the American 'Family History Centre' ? I
need to look-up details on a Devon parish records and I am told that I can do
this by requesting the records to be ordered in by my local FHC. Would this
be the Ref. Library in Newport?
Thanks,

Would SKS take the trouble to see if Philip COLEMAN, about 43, a miner
born in Wiltshire (with wife possibly "Ann" born in Gloucestershire?)
and daughter Elizabeth COLEMAN, about 17, are in Trevethin or vicinity
in the 1851 census? Philip Coleman and wife, Ann, are found in the 1881
census still in Trevethin on Gwent Street, but it is very possible Ann
is not the mother of Elizabeth. One record says her mother was Mary
James.
Elizabeth married John WILLIAMS (oh woe, so many!), a collier, the son
of John WILLIAMS, deceased (more woe!) on 14 August 1854 in "the parish
church" of the "established church" in Trevethin. Both are listed as
from Pontypool and both were age 21 at the time of marriage. The
marriage witnesses were Joseph WAYMAN and John WILLIAMS (a third woe!)
John and Elizabeth WILLIAMS left for the USA ca. 1861, but it is
possible they will appear in the 1861 census in Trevethin with their
living children Sarah, 2 or 3, and James, about 1, both born in Wales
or England, probably in or near Trevethin. Three children died pre-1861.
Many thanks for any assistance with either census.
John,
Thanks for the Street Map site.
It's wonderful.

Hi
Does anyone have easy access to the 1861 or '71 entries for Trevethin?
If so, I'd appreciate a look-up for a Benjamin SMALLCOMBE, born 1860, Trevethin - I'm trying to determine who his parents were,
Thanks
Mark

Hi. I am new to the list. I have two quick questions that I would appreciate if someone would please answer. I just received the birth certificate for my great grandmother, Sarah Jane Simon. It lists the place of birth as (looks like) Twyn Carno, Rumney.
1. Is Twyn Carno, a street, houses or what?
2. The place is listed as Rumney. Her sister was also born in Rumney, but her brother was born in Rhymney as were her parents married there. Are the two names interchangeable, did the change the name or what?
Thank you all in advance for your assistance.

Hi Carolyn,
It's confusing we all know, but Monmouthshire is also likely to be known as
Gwent, and could be shown in old records as either being in England OR in
Wales. That's the penalty for living on the Wales/England border!
Today it's firmly Wales!
Best wishes
Bryan

Hi Carolyn
The IGI has an entry for a Harbert PARRY who married Sarah Ann PRITCHARD on
9 April 1843
at Undy, Monmouth, England. I know that's a day out but perhaps close
enough to be your
couple. If you think it is, then I would suggest that you obtain a copy of
the marriage
certificate which should give you both of their father's names.
I've had a look at my 1861 census file but that is an area where I haven't
yet collected
the full details so I only have the index entries (transcribed by the Gwent
Family History
Society). But I have found this collection of PARRYs on two consecutive
pages:-
1861 RG9 3974 Chepstow Shirenewton Caerwent Folio 54 Page 8
Ann Parry 39
Charles Parry 5
Edwin Parry 11
Elizabeth Parry 16
George Parry 9
Herbert Parry 43
Herbert Parry 7
John Parry 13
Sarah Parry 15
1861 RG9 3974 Chepstow Shirenewton Caerwent Folio 54 Page 7
Emily Parry 1
Henry Parry 35
Mary Rebecca Parry 7
Rebecca Parry 31
Robert Parry 5
Sarah Ann Parry 8
You'd need to check the full details to see who is in which family and
whether the
occupations etc match to what you know about your Herbert. Perhaps somebody
else on the
list will have access to the records and be able to look them up for you.
Otherwise you
can obtain the films through the LDS family history centres.
(It might be an idea to buy a copy of the birth certificate for one of the
children - that
should confirm the mother's maiden name, before getting the marriage
certificate. Herbert
is not a very common Parry first name but it is best to confirm each link as
you work
backwards so that you don't end up following the wrong line.)
I don't think that the 1851 census for that area has been indexed yet but it
is in the
process of being done by the Gwent FHS.
I'm trying to build up a database of all PARRYs, particularly in the three
counties of
Monmouthshire, Herefordshire and Breconshire (web site at
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/im.griffiths/parryfamilyhistory/parryhome.htm)
so please keep
in touch.
Best wishes
