Can someone do an 1841 and 1851 Census check for me? I am seeking information about: PHILIP HOWELL, his wife MARGARET and any family they may have. My reference is vague as the only thing I know about them is that they Christened their youngest child PHILIP at Welsh Calvinistic Church, Saint Mellons, Monmouth on 2nd February 1834. Any Information about this family would be very much appreciated.
Thank you
Wendy in Australia.
Help wanted please to trace my greatgrandmother, Catherine POWELL. She had
a daughter, Agnes Selina in1874 in Lydbrook, Glos. when she was a servant at
Joys green(Glos.). Later in that sanme year Agnes was christened at
Lydbrook Primitive Methodist church . in 1884 Agnes was baptised at the
Bishopswood Baptist church when Catherine was named as mother and as
being"late of Ruardean". Agnes married my grandfather William ALLAWAY in
1896 at Lydbrook. I can1t find any record with mother and daughter together
and this is truly my"brick wall" as I have searched for over two years. Any
suggestions or info. would be welcome Sylvia Morgan(nee ALLAWAY)

I think it likely that the 'farm school' was the forerunner of Usk Borstal.
which is/was about 3 miles south-west of Usk. grid ref ST348990, near a farm
called Prescoed.
In the early 1870s there was an early version of a local authority
children's home at Caerleon, which was either an industrial school or
industrial cottage homes, established by the local board of guardians of the
poor (who ran the workhouse) to enable pauper children to learn useful
trades to be able to go out to work and support themselves.

Firstly, thank you for those who replied to my request for help with my
Marshall family recently. I feel that I am on my way now!
Can anyone help me with the following:
I have a marriage certificate for Nelson Felix Marshall (although I know him
to be Felix Nelson) the date is 5th August 1901, just after the census I
think. He was 26 years old and possibly a cabinet joiner (hard to decipher) His
address was listed as 6 Ralph Street, Coed????? the marriage was solemized at
Hur*gr** Office in the district of Pontypridd, his bride Elizabeth Gibbs was
also listed at the same place. I cannot find him anywhere in the 1901 census,
don't know why!
Can anyone find them in the census for me? Elizabeth was born in Somerset
but she doesn't seem to be there for the census.
Another question, why would a slip of a girl come to Wales from rural
Somerset without her family? Is there any obvious connections with South Wales and
the Mendips?

Thanks to Estelle and further info gathered from a just received marriage certificate,
I think I have identified my paternal great grandparents in the 1901 census. The address
is shown as Gelli Iniq (or Inig) Farm which I believe is somewhere near Pontywaun.
Does anyone out there know of this farm? My great grandparents, George Albert (known
as Albert) and Ann Roberts, were farmers and timber merchants, with a family of
ten children. In my road atlas, I can see a place called Gelli just east northeast of Pontywaun,
northeast of Risca. In the 1901 Kelly's Directory, a commercial entry for Albert Roberts at
Gelly-inn appears under Crosskeys, Risca. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance,
Anne Corke

Dear Lizzie,
I am also researching Davieses of Tredegar. My great-great-grandfather,
David Davies, was born in Tredegar c1824. According to his marriage
certificate, his father was William Davies.
I have tried to find your grandmother on the 1881 census, but cannot find a
Hannah Davies, b Tredegar, who was the daughter of William. It could be
that she was not recorded for some reason, as seems to be the case with one
of my great-grandfathers, but are you sure that she was born in Tredegar and
that her father was William? My David had a son William, born c1855, who
married an Ann.

I have just found a Charles Marshall in my family. He married a Ann ??? and
they had a daughter called Susannah.
I think they were married in 'Abergavenny' in 1845, and Susannah was born in
Oldcastle in 1847. I think Ann died in 1851, and Susannah was brought up by
another family. (On the 1851 and 1861 she is the only Marshall)
I doubt William and Susannah were closely related, as my Susannah seemed to
spend her ealry life aborunf Abergavenny.
Where Charles went to I have no idea, but these are very early days on this
track.
Yours
david HB

Hi
I am hunting for my husbands great grandparents and beyond, I do not have a
lot but I live in hope!!! I have a Felix Marshall who married Elizabeth
Gibbs
from Somerset. Felix was born around1876 I think in Little Tintern, his
parents appear to be William Marshall born around 1849 in Llandago and his
wife
Julia (neee ??) Felix appears to have two brothers Albert and William.
William
and Julia married in 1869. Felix, I think had Salvation Army connections.
Around the 2nd world war Felix was involved in a saw mill locally somewhere,
I think he had quite a large family who continued to work n the saw mill.
Can anyone helpe me either with connections or pointers as to where to go
from here.
Thank you in anticipation.
