Dear Listers
Is there some kind soul who could do me an 1851 look up or an 1861 look-up.
I am looking for:
WILLIAM PREATER age approx 45 in 1851
Occupation Painter and decorator
known address in 1849 26 Corn Street, Newport, Monmouthshire
Wife Mary Ann Randell
Daughter Mary Ann
Possibly son Isaac
I would be interested in 1851 particularly but 1861 or 1871 would also help
to narrow down when Mary Ann Randell died (not alive in 1881)
Thank you
Lois, Portmouth Uk
Hello folks ~
Did not know which list this applies, so I am posting
to both. Hope this is ok.
Looking for the following:
Mary Ann(e) Rogers. b. 1836 in Tredegar (per the 1881
census in Bedwellty, Monmouth, Wales).
She married John Worrell about 1860. They had 6
children and after John's death in a mining accident
she moved to Pennsylvania with her children.
Anyone researching the ROGERs surname?
I would be interested in the 1861 census to see if she
and JOhn are listed.
Thanks for any & all help.
Karlene

<PRE>Hello Listers, I am still trying to find the Parents of a John Morris who
was born in Abercarn in 1810. I feel that the year is the correct one as he
appears on the 1851 Census giving his age as 40 and as I believe his birth
month was November it seems to bear this out. I have seen his marriage entry
in the parish record book but have failed to find anything at all about his
birth. Hoping that someone will be able to give me some clues, Regards,

Slaters Directory is like an old Trade Directory. If one's ancestors has a
shop or a pub or a profession ie doctor, lawyer, etc they may be in it.
It is indexed by place, Abergavenney, Newport, Usk etc, then by profession.
Some parts of it is extremely hard to read, particulary Risca.

Hi,
would sks be good enough to look at 16 Red Lion Square, Bedwellty, Monmouth
for a listing of:-
Patrick FLYNN Head M 35 Ireland labourer
Ellen " wife F 34 Merthyr T. Glam
Catherine " dau F 14 Tredegar Mon.
and any others please.
I am searching for my great grandparents Patrick POWER and Norah FLYNN,
whose marriage certificate (in 1902) suggests that Patrick POWER lived in
Red Lion Square, Tredegar and Norah lived in Commercial Rd Tredegar.
However, a glimpse at the 1881 census shows the FLYNN's living in Red Lion
Square, and a look at the 1901 census suggests Norah's name may be Hannah
Norah, even though her marriage and death certificate say Norah.
Whichever way, I cant find either of them anywhere else, so this just may
bring a change of luck.
thanks in anticipation

Virus warnings to lists like this are a pain and are generally, (and
rightly,) frowned upon by list owners.
But I hope Ann won't mind this one as I'm fairly sure it relates to someone
on this list.
Following my posting to the list on Friday someone sent me a picture of
Blackwood High Street.
Unfortunately it contained the KLETZ WORM virus. My virus scanner was able
to identify and disable it so no harm was done.
If that person was you, I strongly advise you to check your computer with a
good, up-to-date virus checker, as you are probably unaware that you are
sending out a virus.
As most of us are aware, * it is NOT POSSIBLE to be infected by a virus
sent
to this, or any other, rootsweb list. *
The offending message and attachment was sent to an email address on one of
the pages I recommended you visit.

Hi there,
I have the birth certificate of William David Roberts dated 14th August
1865, parents William Christopher Roberts and Jane (nee Watkins ?).
The writing on the certificate is very indistinct but it looks as if the
place of birth is possibly stated as Light... Street, Monmouth. I know the
christening took place at St. Thomas' and that William's father was a
railway porter so presume they lived relatively close to the St. Thomas
area.
Does anyone have any local knowledge of the streets of Monmouth/Monnow in
1865?
Best wishes,
Stuart

I have a Edward Haynes WATKINS married to one of my GAUT girls.
He was born c1847, was a shop keeper when he married in Blaenavon in 1868
and his father was Richard WATKINS.
In the 1881 census, his wife Emma WATKINS was visiting her mother (who died
some months later). The census place was that of Emma's sister, Emma was
listed as a visitor, Emma's son Arthur was listed as a scholar of Plymouth
America. Edward Haynes WATKINS was not listed with them. I know that Emma
later returned to America and died in Oregon in 1868.
I've been trying to find Edward Haynes WATKINS in the 1881 census perhaps at
the abode of his parents or other relations. However, I can't find him and
am coming to the conclusion that he perhaps did not make the trip to Wales
for the obvious last visit to his dying mother in law.
However, in the process of scanning the 1881 census for WATKINS and HAYNES,
I have come across a couple of instances where HAYNES is mentioned as a
middle name for people who do not necessarily the same surname.
So, I was wondering if anyone has any HAYNES ancestors that have their
surname carried down as a middle name, perhaps it was a mother's maiden
name?

It has been ages since I posted my interests (due to ill health and computer
problems). - read on because I have a LOOKUP OFFER at the end..
I'm looking for any GAUT ancestors predominantly in Blaenavon but with such
an unusual surname I'm interested in them from anywhere. So far they have
been found in Shropshire, Staffordshire, Barnsley, Australia and Fiji.
They've been recorded as GANT GAWT GAUGHT GOUTE and GOUGHT, an extra E or T
can be added on the end for good measure.
These are the people who married into the GAUT's

Hi,
Would sks with access to a 1871 census, please lookup Jemima Richards for me?
She would be 11 years old and her father was William Richards
In the 1861 census the family is listed under Uchlawrcoed (Hollybush) but
Jemima was not listed.
Later the family lived at Bedwelty Pits.
I would appreciate this very much.
Thank you

Hi Jeff
From the birthplaces of his children in the 1881 census it looks as if Charles would have
been in Pittsburg in the 1860s and in Swansea 1870/1. Have you tried Ancestry.com or
the Glam list for these periods?
