Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
I have just used the standard Micrografx program (which I had on my HD) and it works
beautifully - no more black borders - no more expensive cartridges!
So thank you for the tip.

I searched for Moses Davies, aged 17 +/- 2, in 'Ebbw Vale', and didn't find
him. I dropped the Ebbw Vale and the age, and looked for Moses everywhere.
He turned up, aged 17, in 'E Vale'. The Davies' that showed up in
subsequent 'E Vale' searches, did not turn up in 'Ebbw Vale' searches, and
vice-versa. Nobody lived in 'Rassau', but some people did live in 'Rassan Entire'.

Basically, drop the place names wherever possible in your searches. Anyone
looking for 19 year old Mary Price, born in Beaufort Brynmawr, for example,
should also know to search for her being born in 'Porecou Porynmaw'. That
one has been my favourite error so far!
Mind you, one I liked, probably came at the enumeration stage ( I haven't
checked the census image yet, because besides the crashes, I've already
spent a quarter of my weekly income in just over one hour). My ancestor
Thomas Brooks, was apparently born in 'Rowrdean Glos' - maybe in spite of
having been in Sirhowy long enough to be bilingual, the enumerator still
heard his Forest of Dean accent!

As for downloading the images, yes, the test page works fine, and I can look
at the image pages - but if I try to save the page I'm looking at, then the
system crashes - and yes, you do get charged for it.
When you reboot and reconnect, even if your account is still open, the
system realizes that you might have 'forgotten' to log off previously, and
you can resstart the account seesion.
are you on a Macintosh?
there is a health warning about saving images ;-((((

I reckon you could find it in the internet cache under another name
try purging the cache
and getting the test image
then explore the cache with netscape say (size would be a good guide line)

The page downloads in potscard format and changing it
to jpeg does not make any difference. So you will have to
rotate it and crop the black edges before printing. Also
I print mine on 160 gram thin card and it looks excellent.

I am still a newbie genealogist so I do a bit for free in order to learn the trade.
what do you guys want ?
when I go pro (if ever) there will be a minimum advance payment of £100 or £200 steringl
I have just spent nearly £35 on 1901 plus 3 journeys to London
ordered my first St Caths look ups and got 5 out of 6 right
done on Thursday at 6 50 PM and arrived this morning
for £39
I saw the pro.s steaming through the BDM with sheets of look ups and check lists of volumes seen
If you really want one approach SOG
I am spending money because I have exhausted the free stuff family records, MIs and am getting back to 1850ies in most lines
then it will be archive time
I started my musical career as an amateur when I got good enough I got paid:-)

Hi Lynne
You are probably not doing anything wrong. From similar messages on various lists, I
think the system is beginning to break down under overload. I have lost about 3pounds
50 in the last 24 hours. I have decided not to do any more than search until it is more
reliable.
<< email them with your session number
and ask for help
use the web form or support(a)censushelpdesk.co.uk
but you must send session number
always jot it in notebook at once and the
references to images
RG13_Pc-1050_Fo-30_Pg-29
rg13 1050 30 29
RG13 piece 1050 folio 30 page 29
that download failed but I kept at it and was only charged once (when the download is completed)
always suspend a session and resume
until over £5 english
I have nearly used £35 over three weeks
I have a steady correspondance going on with them
I am feeding them our stuff which will end up in public on google groups or rootsweb archives
they wrote today expressing their gratitude again to your genealogical colleagues
private emails remain private obviously
like the GOONS list
Hugh WGet more from the Web. FREE MSN Explorer download : http://explorer.msn.com
Does anyone have a solution to the following scenario?
I've located an individual and viewed the details for 50p but now, when
beginning a new session, I want to return and download an image of the page
they were on. Do I have to re-search and pay for that entry again before I
can press a "download" button?
There appears to be no way to "top-up" a session when you run out of money.
This can be infuriating if you view someone's details, realise you've found
your man but cannot view the rest of the householders because you've reached
your session limit. When beginning a new session, it would appear that you
have to pay 50p to view that person's entry AGAIN before downloading the
rest of the householder's details.
Furthermore, entries already searched don't appear to be saved when a
session is restarted but perhaps I'm missing something!
Cheers,
Nettie Edwards

Dear Graham,
While I'm not related to the Sheppard family, I do have ancestors from
Market Lavington and am always interested to get in touch with other people
with connections to the Wiltshire town. My Market Lavington ancestry is one
of the best developed and most detailed family lines that I have researched
so I have links with quite a few families down there, including some well
known local family names such as Holloway. If you intend to take this line
back a lot further then keep in touch as we may find a mutual connection
somewhere along the line which goes back to about 1575 for me.
Best wishes
James Phillips-Evans
hello Graham,
I know 2 people in our Ebbw Vale branch of Gwent FHS who are researching
Shepherd/ Sheppard lines. Unfortunately at present they are not on the
