Hi Everyone,
Researchers with an interest in Pengam in the Rhymney Valley may like to
know that I've just added extra information to the permanent Pengam
special feature on the "Images of Wales" pages of my website. The
additions consist of a series of fascinating personal reminiscences
provided by Anthony Jenkins who lived in Pengam through the 1940s and
'50s.
To visit the Pengam webpage, select "Images of Wales, Main Feature" from
the "Short Cuts" link at the
top of my WFHA homepage at the URL below. Then click on "Pengam,
Bedwellty, Monmouthshire" in the "Archive and Special Features" column.
Best wishes,
John

Hi Suzanne, if you have his Army Number, then write to the following address
explaining who you are and you would like this person's Army Records. It
will cost you money and take a few weeks to come through. When we had our
father's records it cost £25. Good hunting and regards Mick McAllister

Still seeking information on lineage of Ebenezer Hughes born between 1836 and
1842..{ .his marriage record of 1857 to Elizabeth Morgan shows age age 19
(born 1838) His first American Census of 1870 shows age 28 born 1842!}
probably born and lived at CWM (near Ebbw Vale)..parents probably William and
Mary Phillips.....He probably also had a sister Mary born 1843 to 1845...also
at Cwm. Ebenezer appears in 1841 Census of Monmouth, Abervegenny, Parish of
Aberystruth, Cwm showed age 5 (born 1836?)... HELP
Hi Listers,
I wonder if anyone would be able to find this family in the 1871 Newport
census please?
I am looking for the HUGGINS (might be down as HIGGINS) family - George aged
about 31 (from Leicestershire), Louisa aged about 20 (from Bristol) and
perhaps little Edward, born Newport about 1871. The couple married in
February 1870, at which time George was living at "Watch House Parade,
Newport" and Louisa (nee HOBBS) was living at "Castle Precincts, Newport".
By 1881 they had moved to Swansea, but they had children in Newport in 1871,
1873, 1877, and 1879. In 1874 they had a child in Swansea. In 1881 Louisa's
father (Charles HOBBS) was boarding at 3 Castle Precincts.
I hope I have not asked too difficult a favor!
Regards,
Linda Clapp

Bernard, sorry, but no matches in the 1891 for Eastern Valley, MON, Usk and

Hi Carole,
It's in Pontllanfraith, (between Blackwood and Maesycymmer/Ystrad Mynach.) There's a factory, a housing estate and a primary
school there now but in 1840 it would probably have been only one road. It's just down the hill from Penllwyn.
It's usually referred to as 'the Bryn'. (Bryn' is the Welsh word for Hill)

Hello Carol
This might help. It is a description of the enumeration district from the 1851 census:
"2453 1+ - 4 Mynyddyslwyn, Newport 580
Page 261A - Clawrplwyf Hamlet. All that part of the parish of Mynyddyslwyn which lies
between Sirhowey River and Rhymney River, bound on the north by the parish of
Bedwellty and on the south by Bedwas and Machen, (including all the Farm houses,
Gellygroes, Greyhound Inn, River Row, Penllwyn, Bryn, Gellyhave and Flower de Luce)"
