Anyone know where I can get the resource file viewer 3. I have the 1881
census and want to be able to search using more refined searches than
version 2 allows. I have been to the Family search site and tried to order
it but they want £30 with shipping etc. If I can get it from britain it
would be much cheaper.

Hello Alice
Maybe if I explain the problems in helping with your research, you
may understand why you haven't had a reply so far.
1. Lois was born after the 1851 census, so she couldn't be found via
that medium.
2. The 1851 census is only partially indexed so, even if you gave us
her parents' names, it is unlikely someone would spend several
hours/days looking through it for you without knowing a town where
they were living/she was born.
3. No one has access to the details (except the names of the bride
and groom) of a marriage certificate without buying it. This should
be your first step. The certificate will give you the names and ages
of the couple, their address and their fathers' names.
4. Someone could search the 1861 index for your couple, but there are
many sections of it missing, so they may not be found.
5. Like the 1851 census, the 1871 is not fully indexed, so the same
problems apply. Also you don't give a date for the marriage, so they
may have emigrated at the time of the census (in April).
6. Lastly, most people access the censuses through their local family
history library, most don't have it at home on film, fiche or CD (or
via www).
Can you give any other details of this family? Do you have any birth
or marriage certificates to give us clues? If you don't then you
will need to buy (at least) the marriage certificate.
Don't give up, even the smallest clue may help us to help you.

Hello Listers,
In an attempt to find Gwenllian David, wife of my ancestor, I checked the British Registry for a period of about 8 years and found 13 of them, any one of which could have been her. With help from some of you kind people, part of them were eliminated and I now have her birth certificate. She was born 9 March 1854 and her parents were David David, a Collier, and Mary David (formerly Thomas).
Gwenllian's birth certificate was registered in the District of Brigend. Next step - Find a Census record after 1854 with her parents and siblings. On the 1881 Census (after her marriage) she showed her birthplace as Cwmbach, Glamorgan, Wales, but her marriage took place in the Parish of Llanfigan, County of Brecon. Her husband, John, was living at Lytch House when they were married and she was living in Burslem, Staffordshire, Aber. At that time (1872) she showed her father's occupation as "Colliery Proprietor". Where to start...........?
Do any of you listers have access to 1861 or 1871 Census Indexes for any of the above places that might show Gwenllian's family?
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Norma in U.S.A.

Dear Joanne,
Goodness me, I have never taken offence with you or anyone. I am always
pleased to answer any queries or help people as much as I possibly can.
I have not been as active as much on list recently and I thought your
immediate questions had been answered.
I have been involved with the Ebbw Vale branch at Gwent exhibition's,
weddings, birthdays, funerals, etc. It hasn't left a great deal of time.
By the time I get to the list I have about 4 or 5 Monmouth mails. Most
queries have been answered in most cases. A few more weeks and I will
be able to get back into the groove;))
If you have any queries email me and I will try to help all I can.
best wishes,
Brenda, Gwent

Of interest to anyone who has ancestral connections with the old county of
Monmouthshire.--
I wrote to the list for the first time a week ago, I know thats not very long
but I was hoping someone would write to me telling me that they would help
but maybe at a later time. I realize that this is summer and people are
trying to enjoy a little bit of freedom so I understand completely. Well
anyway, I will give the information I have:
Lois Aston - Wales
Born - 1852
Married - John Bibey - 1871 at Monmouth, Wales
Imigrated to US that same year.
John Bibey I believe was born in England (don't know
where).
He was born - 1850
We believe they are our great-grandparents on my mothers side. We had a Uncle
Jim Aston - England or Wales - 1892 - might be Lois's nephew.
I would really appreciate anyones help locating the information on the
marriage certificate or the information on a birth certificate. That will
give us another link to our ancestors. Hope to hear from someone.

P.S. I forgot to say that our Uncle Jim's name was Garfield James Aston. Its
funny, you think you know someones name then one day you look at the census
list and it all changes. We checked the Social Security death list and we are
certain (by the address) that is the one and only Uncle Jim!

I've found out more about the Morgan family I'm researching and wanted to
submit it to the group again in case anyone recognizes any of these people.
Marriage took place in St. Peter Carmarthen in 1809. I'm trying to find
birthplaces and parents/siblings of David Morgan and Jane Bowen. Daughter's
marriage record for 1842 says she lived in Victoria, parish of Bedwellty,
MON. I'm guessing that the rest of the family did as well. Would like death
details as well, but don't know places.
Husband - David Morgan, born June 19, 1785, died January 17, 1837
Wife - Jane Bowen, born October 9, 1788
Children -
John, born August 22, 1810
Elizabeth, born June 13, 1813
James, born June 3, 1820
Ann, born July 18, 1823, died October 8, 1909 (US)
Morgan, born December 20, 1827
Jane, born March 1, 1825, died May 14, 1828
Jane, born April 11, 1830
Thanks and best wishes,

Hi everyone,
Here is a useful site I find very helpful. It is called Parloc.2.0 & is a parish locator. It enables you to see the distance between 2 Towns. It also gives a circler map of Parishs within a 10 mile radius of the town you are interested in. If you can't find your ancestors, they may be in the next parish, & this site tells you the different parishes.
It is on the website of someone called Dave Bennett, & you can download it from his site free of charge. His address is below.

I need some help with a marriage - no, not my own, that's another story!
I am trying to find the marriage of William GAUT to Elizabeth JENKINS.
William was born in Llanover and buried in Blaenavon.
William appears in the 1851 census in Brickyard, Blaenavon with his parents
and siblings.
William then appears in the 1861 census at 2 Tunnel Mouth Llanwenarth Ultra
with his wife Elizabeth and children Emma 8 born Llanover Upper, and the
following children born Llanwenarth - Richard 4, Ann Elizabeth 3 and Joseph
1.
I have searched the IGI and FreeBDM for a marriage for the above couple but
can't find any record.
I have tried under William GAUT and also under Elizabeth JENKINS. I tried
Elizabeth JENKINS because the GAUT surname is spelt in a variety of ways on
parish records and census etc. My searches were broad, selecting British
Isles rather than Wales or Monmouth etc, searching between 1851 and 1861.
Has anyone got any bright ideas on where I should try and look for this
mysterious marriage?

Seeking Nicholas Nicholas in 1861 Census for Monmouthshire, Rock Bedwelty
subdistrict parish of Islawrcoed (Pengam)
wife Catharine, daugther Elizabeth, Daughter Joan, son Daivd Nicholas
Hello list.
Richard GAUT my ancestor, is buried at St Peters, Blaenavon. He died 6th
November 1870 aged 71 years.
I know who he married and I know he had at least 8 children and their names.
Q1. If I was to get his death certificate, what other information would be
provided?
I also have found a record on the IGI which I believe is his
christening/baptism. I have viewed the film of the parish records at the
LDS research centre and copied the relevant page.
Q2. If I applied for this birth certificate, would it give me any more
information than what can be found in the parish records?
Q3. If so, where do I get the certificate?
Q4. Is it possible, and cheaper to get a transcription instead?
Regards
