Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Can anyone on the list tell me where I can find adoption records for the
Ebbw Vale area. I have reached a brick wall researching my father who
was adopted in 1920.

I ordered my copy of the Index back in March to take advantage of the
pre issue offer. Reading various lists it seems that quite a few people have
got theirs already. Where's mine? Those who ordered as I did, have you got
yours yet? or has anyone ordered since the release date and recieved theirs
already?

Hi listers. Does anyone have a connection with William Prosser and Anne James? I need to get in
touch with Ruthann Bagley -- she has
a Prosser/James connection -- unfortunately,
the last couple times I've tried to send her
emails, they've been returned, so I'm assuming
she's changed her email addy - any chance
of someone having it?

William James) I'm trying to varify Wm. Prosser's birth
place, date and parents. Also family and personal info on

Hi Listers,
Thanks to all who replied, hope I have replied to all directly, I appreciate the
advise to get "A History of Ebbw Vale" by Arthur Gray-Jones - such local knowledge is
great for new comers from remote Australia. It seems consensus is "Railman in Iron
Works" is a skilled progression from "forge labourer" where they used their
blacksmithing skills to cast or asses quality of rails for railways around the world.
A job in an Iron Works Company not a job in a railway company. In my ancestor's case
around 1871 in Ebbw Vale it seems he would have worked for "Ebbw Vale Iron and Steel
Company" who owed the ironworks and various coal & iron mines in the valley, a
precursor to the Corus plant currently in the news for closure in July, and the end
of a long local era of iron/steel making. I also learnt Ebbw Vale steel was used to
build our famous Australian "Coathanger", the Sydney Harbour Bridge 1923 to 1932, so
I can remember my Welsh heritage each time I cross it.
Thanks, Betty, Gwynneth, Nadine & Sian the help was great,

Hi
It may help to know that part of Blaenavon Ironworks was the Steel Rail Mill
where "railmen" (one of my FH) were
employed. This was probably a general term in use at the time.

Hi
Recently, someone was kind enough to list for me all the Exton's from the
1891 census in Cardiff. Unfortunately, I seem to have lost the email address
but does anyone out there have the index or access to the full data. I only
have the names and not the census location and would like the details on all
of them (about 12), but I am particularly interested in a Henry J Exton and
a Joseph J Exton - family, age, place of birth, etc.

For those interested in the History of Gwent
Meurig, King of Gwent & Glywyssing
(Latin, Mauricius/English, Maurice)
Meurig was the son of St.Tewdrig. He took on the Gwentish throne upon his
father's abdication in the early-7th century. He was a Warrior King who kept
the Saxons at bay and reunited his Kingdom with Ergyng by marrying Princess
Onbrawst daughter of King Gwrgant Mawr (the Great) of that Kingdom. Her
brothers were apparently no match for Meurig's expansionistic policies. He
was a great patron of Llandaff Cathedral where he was eventually buried.
Some researchers claim he used the title "Uther Pendragon" which translates
as Wonderful Commander. He is thus identified as King Arthur's father.
Saxons - Germanic tribes who invaded Briton in the 5th & 6th centuries.Their
descendants prefer to be known as English.
However a certain MP in the news recently refers to Anglo-Saxon tradtions
being destroyed ;-)

Greetings!
I am new to the list. I am looking for Nash or Howell(s) family
researchers or anyone who may information regarding my line of Nashs or
Howell(s). Last bit of definitive evidence leads me to Jonah Nash, born
ca 1816, whereabouts unknown. He married Harriett Howell(s) in Pontypool
in Sept. 1841. I know nothing of Harriett's family. Harriett was also
born ca 1815-20. Had a son named Adam who died. Had another son named
Adam born in Bedwelty_Sirhowy area in 1845. Jonah and family immigrated
to the Ohio Valley region of the US ca 1845-49.
I would enjoy finding out who Jonah's and Harriett's parents and
siblings were. (I would enjoy finding out anything about them really.) I
have a great deal of information on the family after their arrival I can
share with those interested.
Look forward to hearing from someone.

Hi all,
NOT to be confused with plain old Llangattock (Llangatwg) which is just
over the Monmouth broder in Brecon (Beaufort is in this parish). When
you try to order films from the LDS and you type in Llangattock - they
come back with 3 replies. None of which specify WHICH Llangattock
________ you are going to get. So be careful when ordering!!!
Best regards,
Dawn Perry-Taft

Hi Listers,
I hesitate to ask, but, if there is no index and there are not
too many records for Tredegar, could SKS with access to the 1841 Census
records for Tredegar check on any entry for -
John JENKINS, with Catherine Jenkins aged, c.12 yrs.
I am looking for an entry probably at Tredegar for Catherine JENKINS, born
c.1829, father's name John JENKINS (mother's name possibly Catherine or
Mary).
Catherine Jenkins married in 1849 at Tredegar to Thomas PARRY and
emmigrated to Australia. Unfortunately I cannot get to a FHS.
Any assistance would be appreciated,

RADNORSHIRE: Pugh

CARDIGANSHIRE: Parry, Jones/Pugh
Would SKS be prepared to do a lookup for me, please, in the 1881 (and
1891 if you have it) census for Margaret NANKIEVELL/NANCEKIEVIL, who
lived at 69 Power Street, Newport, Mon.
This was my mother's beloved grandmother, who I believe was widowed at a
very young age, so would probably be listed as "Head of the Household".
Any other sightings of this name in Newport would also be gratefully
received!!
Thanks for any assistance.

If anyone is interested in this family I would love to hear from
