Can anyone tell me when the annual electoral registers were started, and how

Have just found this site with a number of photos of Welsh Quoits players. Lists their
names and home towns, plus the competitions they played against other countries.
1904-1979+
Until I read this, I thought that quoits was a shipboard game only!

List,
I would be grateful for a look-up from someone who has access to the 1841 Census that covers Bedwas. I am trying to find David NICHOLAS born Abt. 1850 his father was Nicholas NICHOLAS and they could be living on High Street, Bedwas.
Thanks

Hello and Happy Holidays!
I'm going to try and look up a christening for my 3x's G grandmother
Hannah Miller who gave her place of birth as Machen and year of birth as
1814 in the 1851 British Census. I wanted to start with Non-conformist
records first, because she insisted on marrying my GGG Grandfather
Charles CALLEN at Bethesda Calvinistic Methodist in Beaufort in 1845,
although all his own family's events were at Wesleyan Methodist chapels.
Would I start with Zoar CM Chapel in Risca with baptisms from 1812-1837
as my best bet, or would there have been a closer CM chapel for that time
period for Machen? Which Circuit would have covered this area?
Many thanks,

there. Does anyone have any information on him, or other DARK's, they could
share with me. I would appreciate any information.
Happy New Year from a new lister.

Hi: This is my first time on this list.....was wondering if someone out there
has any connection to this family.....My ancestors:
Thomas Hughes born sometime around 1854 from Cylched, Anglesey Wales and
lived in Bryngwran....Bodedern and worked as a farm labourer in and about
1881
Ellinor(Ellen) Hughes, nee Jones born sometime around 1849 in Llanfair
Neubwll, Anglesey Wales
John Hughes, born 1876 Llanfair Neubwll, Anglesey , Wales son of Thomas and
Ellinor
William Hughes....another son born 1877 Llanfair, Neubwll, Anglsey, Wales
Ellinor Hughes born sometime around 1880 or 1881 before the
census.....Bodedern, Anglesey , Wales
Thomas Hughes...born in 1881 .....Bodedern, Anglesey ,Wales
Hugh Hughes....born sometime around 1887-place of birth I am not sure....but
probably would be in Anglesey, Wales.....Bodedern.
These are my ancestors and somehow there is a link to a THOMAS that lived in
Bodedern, Anglesey,Wales ---is there anyone out there that may know of this
family and if there are any descendants still living in Wales...
The THOMAS family would be a Hugh THOMAS, Margaret THOMAS, john THOMAS all
born in Cylched, Anglesey ,Wales
Would love to hear from anyone who might have a connection to this family and
would know of living descendants from them......
Warm Regards and Thanks,
Linda

I've found your family in the 1891 census at Lower Machen, as follows:
RG12/4383/f.96/p.24/sched.135 2 Graig View, Machen Lower
William Roberts, head, mar, 29, Coal miner, b. Swansea, Glam.
Susan do., wife, mar, 43, b. Risca, Mon.
David do., son, sing, 1, b. Machen, Mon.
William H. do., son. sing, 18, Coal miner, b. Risca, Mon.
John do., son, sing, 13, Coal miner, b. do.
Joseph Harris, lodger, mar, 21, Coal miner, b. Machen. Mon.
Edith do., lodger, mar, 21, b. Risca, Mon.
The first of the above speaks both Welsh and English; all the others speak
English only.
Hope this helps.

Sorry for the cross posting, but I was wondering if there are any "Antique"
type experts on one of these lists who may be able to give me a value on an
item.
We have a bottle of "Bass King's Ale", brewed in 1902 to celebrate the
coronation of Edward VII. The bottle is unopened, and the beer has not
evaporated either. The top is still sealed with a lead (or pewter) seal, and
the label is intact.
If anyone has any idea how much this may be worth (not that it's being sold
as it was most probably purchased by my G-G-Grandfather Evan LEWIS), I would
appreciate a clue.
Regards,
Raynor LEWIS
Hi Raynor,
Found a couple of URL's that might be of interest

patient. Bass Ale is popular here in the US!!!

Hello Listers,
Just a few line to let you know about our bush fires
arround Sydney.
These fires started in our Blue Mountains which is 60 Kms west of
Sydney and the coast. We have heard it was deliberately lit by someone.
The temperature during the day is up to 36 deg C and as we have had no
rain for months its is very dry.
The area where we live is 6Km from the mountains on what is fairly
level ground cut up in small farms of 5 to to 25 Acres and some larger
properties which are mainly used for graizing Cattle and Horses, and a
few small towns with houses in 1/4 acre blocks We have 61 Acres where we
graze Horse and a few cattle and my 2 daughters also live on this
property
The fires started in the Mountains over a 20 Km front .Burning some and
leaving others , as the wind changes direction . the fire crossed the
Nepean River south of Penrith and burnt property at Mulgoa, Wallacia ,
Warragamba , Luddenham, and continued east towards St Marys ,where it
has been contained, but further south the fire has moved through grass
land and scrub East to the coast, Roads have been blocked by Police as
the fire raged.
We were told to be prepared to evacuate our houses as the fire was just
across the road from us, but forunately the winds changed, and after
hoseing our houses and surrounds untill 2 am Wednesday morning we went
to bed.
This is when we wonder what a Cold and snowy Xmas would be like
Otherwise we are now ok, but I had my computer disconected ready to go
could not lose my Family details etc
Regards to all

Could some kind person, with access to the 1871 and 1891 census, confirm for
me the occupants of:-
(A)
18 Lower George Street
St Wollos
Newport
(B)
127 Lewis Street
Newport
There are about a dozen possibilities in Monmouthshire.
My advice is to apply for a childs birth certificate for
mothers maiden name.
Also how old were John & Mary in 1851 census and
what were their birth places.
