Hi Dawn, you sent me an email which appeared in my
bulk mailbox with 40k. I received another from Adrian
in Yorkshire and he seems to have has some sort of
trouble. Sorry I don't like to open it just in case
and, as it's the same 40k as Adrian's email, can you
send it again or assure me there's no virus attached?
regards, Luned in Tasmania

I'm wondering if SKS happens to have access to the 1841/51 Census in Bedwas
and could lookup
My gggrandfather Edward Williams. He was born in Bedwas in abt 1835. I have
located him
in the 1881 census in Llanwonno where he was a coal miner and from that
census it is
apparent that he also resided in Eglwysilan (abt 1869-76) and Clawrplwy,
Mynyddislwyn
(at least 1861-65). Some one was kind enough to do a lookup in the 1861
census already.
If anybody is interested he married Mary probably in Clawrplwy around 1860
and had a number of
Children, David, Thomas, William, Philip, George, Ebenezer, Edward, Margaret
and Mary.
Maybe also Hippolyte and Catherine - depending on how accurate the census
records are.
Thanks in advance

Hi Listers
I am thinking that my earlier message "didn't make it". Perhaps I hit
the wrong button.
I am searching for Roberts, and Morgan. Although my Roberts was
supposedly born in Bristol (1880) and married Mary Anne Morgan (b.
Stockton-on-Tees 1885), their children (starting with my G.Mother
Edith Roberts) were born at Abersychan and perhaps elsewhere. 2 of
their children are apparently buried at Trevethin. They went to Kent
(1930's) but my G.G.Mother returned to die at Cwmbran.
Names
William John Roberts married to
Mary Anne (nee Morgan)
Children (all Roberts)
Edith (married Knapton)
Lemuel Charles (Charlie) (married Hughes)
Thirza Irene (married Howells)
Percival (Percy) (married Clout) ... and had a sweet shop that I remember
Hilda Mary (married James)
Horace James (Jim) (married Mulligan)
Ivy (married Howard)
Olive & Ira ... both buried at Trevethin (Trevethyn) churchyard
Primary searches .. Knapton, Mordecai, Roberts, Morgan
Thanks

I know my grandmother married David Rosser in 1865 in Merthyr and according to 1881 Census had 6 children. David Rosser died in 1881 age 39.
In 1891 Census the family appear in Rhymney and Jane appears as Jane Davies, widow. There are three Rosser children and three Davies children.
There is no trace of a marriage between Jane and Philip Davies who also died age 39 on 2nd jan 1890.
He would be aged 30 in 1881 Census but there were three Philip Davies's age 30 in Merthyr alone. How can I find out more about my grandfather Philip Davies?
Any guidance would be appreciated.

I'm wondering if someone could help me read some town/districts/locations on
a Certificated Copy of an 1850 Birth Certificate - please.
I have just received a Birth Certificate for EDWIN [George] SKEWIS, born
Third February 1850.
The Registration District reads "Abergavenny"
The sub-district reads ?? Trillegar (not sure of this)
The County reads Monmouth
When and where born - shows Sorhang (not at all sure of this!), Bedwellty
Description of residence of informant shows Elizabeth Skewis - Mother -
Sorhang (????)
Could someone please help me with the name of the sub-district; and the
town/location in Bedwellty that starts with an "S"?
I would also be so very grateful if someone could find this family on the
1851 Census in or near to this location...
Thank you so very much!

Hello everyone,
I have just received an E Mail perporting to be from, verell(a)hotkey.net.au
(Veronica Ellis). The Mail had an attachment and part of the title was
DOC. pif
If you have no Anti Virus software DO NOT OPEN IT.
Thankfully I have NORTON ANTI-VIRUS 2001 and it removed the file before it
actually opened.
This is just a number of E Mails I have noticed on several of the List's
carrying this same Virus and with the same heading which includes DOC. pif.
Hope your E Mail stays clean.

Perhaps you would be kind enough to unsubscribe them until they have removed
the virus from their pc. to avoid this spreading.
Many Thanks.....Hazel
Also received TWO virus warnings today from my Administrator. One from
Craig Broadfield re Pigots Directory and another regarding the surname of
ALDROFT which I have an interest. BOTH deleted immediately without opening,
so if the person who sent the ALDROFT email is genuine, will be happy to
respond, but I DON'T open attachements.

Dear Jim, you are brilliant. As soon as I found the
1891 Emery I thought a look at the 1881 Emery might
show something. And YOU did.
As a matter of fact I found Jeremiah's parents at The
Farm just down the road in 1891 and, who else is
there? Wilfred Jenkins 21 of Govilon. So it certainly
seems the Jenkins are involved in a big way.
As far as where Benjamin James of Glandwr, Llanover,
is involved, I think I know. His 'grandson' Alfred
James was listed previously as illegitimate Alfred
Thomas. His birth certificate says Mary Ann Thomas as
mother of Llanover and father unknown. I guess it all
boils down to the fact that Old Ben was a randy old
bugger who couldn't keep his hands off young servants,
and as his wife didn't have children, they 'adopted'
Alfred, maybe Theophilus is Ben's? I shall hunt for
his birth certificate. WELL.... One thing is clear
about my family, they're verile!!! My grandfather 54
married my grandmother 18. diolch yn fawr Luned in
Tasmania.

If anyone has received an infected 40k attachment purporting to come
from me, I can assure you IT DID NOT come from me as my machine is
clean. Any message like this was generated by the virus from someone
else's email address lists.
I have received a number of these messages myself and have simply
deleted them without opening. They are fairly easy to recognise as
they are usually 40kb in size. (I understand the latest liz virus is
about 15kb). I use McAfee anti-virus and am running it twice a day
just to be safe.

<< Dear all,
I received a BADTRANS Virus in a mail note today. It was in a 'hidden'
attachment to a reply to an enquiry I made to the list in July. There was no
indication in the inbox that there was an attachment to the note.
The reply note came from Pat Whitelaw and the subject heading was "Price
family in Aberystruth 1830 -1881". Pat if this was a genuine reply from you,
you will need to check for the virus on your system. Fortunately my AV
system spotted the virus and I deleted the e-mail before opening. I did a
virus scan and I don't believe the virus has got through; all appears OK on
my system.
Pat, if this was a genuine reply to my original request I would still like
to know if you have found something of interest as I still need to more
about this family, please try again when you are sure that you are virus
free.
Best wishes

Hello John,
I too had an attachment from Pat Whitelaw and downloaded it. On trying to
open the messgae it disappeared from the screen. I immediately checked my
Nortopn Anti Virus and there was novirus recorded, but there was definately
something very suspicious about it.
I have since contacted Pat and as yet have recieved no reply.

First: Anne, the 1891 CD arrived today (Tues Oz time)
and am so EXCITED! Already have a crick in my neck,
thanks again.
Second: Jim, thanks for checking young Embrey-Emery.
In fact I made the same discovery today as you can see
from the above message. I concur with the Radnorshire
Jenkins but now I have to figure out why young Emery
was mentioned in my gr gr uncle Benjamin James' will
and was referred to as Ben's grandson - curiouser and
curiouser. Many thanks again, Luned in Tasmania

I have put [OT] in the subject line as it doesn't relate to Welsh
genealogy.
I was sent a notice of this lecture at VUW that some of you may be
interested in:
"The Victoria University Centre for Continuing Education is offering
this lecture with Geoff Chambers, Reader in Cell and Molecular
Biosciences at Victoria University, and Manager of Victoria's
Institute for Molecular Systematics. Recent scientific advances in
DNA technology have enable researchers at VU to track the historical
movements of people across the Pacific by following the "Genetic
Trail" left in the genes of their modern day descendants. This living
record shows remarkable agreement with evidence from other
disciplines, such as Anthropology and Linguistics, and with the oral
history of the peoples themselves. It throws up one or two surprises
as well. This lecture will relate the findings from a ten-year
programme of human genetic studies carried out at Victoria. It will
explain how these findings illuminate this most recent phase of human
migration, the settlement of the remote Pacific Islands.
7- 8:30 pm, Tuesday 27 November
