Hello Vernia,
As Pam says Manmoel is Ebbw Vale area but it is slightly on down the valley situated above a place called Cwm.Manmoel is on the flat above the valley. There used to be Coal pits around the area, with one called "Marine Colliery" being at the bottom of the steep road down from Manmoel into Cwm.This pit as all our others is now no more.
The world snooker champion Mark Williams comes from the small place that Cwm is.On up the valley at Ebbw Vale you have the remaining works of what was a very big Iron/Steel Plant.
Hope this is of help,Malcolm BRINKWORTH in Abergavenny,Monmouthshire.
Hi Listers,
I absolutely cannot read a place on either the 1841 or 1851 census. Does
anyone know of a Hamlet of ? during either of those censuses?
Many thanks in advance.

Sorry Al, but it seemed pretty clear to me when I wrote it. Records for the old registration
district of Pontypool are now split between Torfaen, Blaenau Gwent and Monmouth
register offices.
If the birth was registered in the town of Pontypool as opposed to, say, Llangibby or Usk
(which were both sub districts of Pontypool ) then the record will be at Torfaen record
office.
If you're still confused please take a look at my web site :

Cheers,
Glyn
PS How's cousin Kay?
Hi Lynda
This is probably Llantarnam Parish (Llanfihangel Llantarnam) which is in
Monmouthshire.

Hi Sylvia,
Most of the Pontypool registrations are held at Torfaen, but some will be found in Blaenau
Gwent or Monmouth.
The present day addresses of all the Registration Offices in old Monmouthshire, including
Pontypool, can be found at:
www.argonet.co.uk/users/ghale/reg.html
If you make your cheque out to 'The Superintendant Registrar' most registrars will forward
your request on to the correct office. If it's the actual town of Pontypool you're after that's
likely to be Torfaen.
Cheers,
Glyn Hale

Wonder if anyone have an 1861 census for Rhymney. I am looking for a family
of Thomas HARRIS originally from Mitchel Troy, lived in Trevethin 1850, son
Thomas b, Abersychan 1852 and Rhymney 1863. They left for USA in 1869, so
the 1861 census would be the last one they would be listed on. Many thanks,
Isabel Harris.
