I don't know what address Ken Wilmott sent his questions to but I
suspect it was the old one at cableonline. This would explain why he
hasn't had a reply.
Gwent FHS does not have transcripts of BTs for any parish on fiche. Most
of the parish transcripts for Gwent were done by David Woolven and are
deposited with the Society of Genealogists. Gwent FHS does not have
access to them other than to go to the SoG and look at the books.
Mike John has permission from David to use the Transcripts so - over to
you Mike!
David Woolven has transcribed most, if not all of the Gwent parishes and
lots of other things besides and having Mike John to access them is a
really good idea

Does anyone know where the records for this cemetary are obtainable?
Are they available on site or from Torfaen Council?
Are there copies in the Gwent Record Office?

Does anyone have access to the Methodist or Baptist Non-Conformist
records of Peterstone Wentloog, St. Brides, or Marshfield area of
southwestern Monmouth? We're trying to find a David WILLIAMS family
with 2 girls, Frances and Jane, born about 1842 and 1843. They are not
in Church of England records, and Jane as an adult was Baptist. On an
electoral poll David was on the Ty-gas or Ty-las farm owned by a Mr.
JONES in late 1843 and early 1844, but we don't have anything else on
them. The girls end up in Cardiff, mostly in Roath, but we don't know
when they went there.
Thanks
Ed Scriven
Interested in finding out about Robert James Keith Watkins or his wife
Patricia. They were living in Commercial Street Newport in 1947.
Assuming they are still in good health, they would probably be in their
70s or 80s now. Current whereabouts unknown.
If you have information, please contact me off-list and I can explain my
interest.
Thanks,
Tina

Hi Listers (Particularly novices like myself)!!,
I wonder how many people are aware of the Interactive Surname Search?? I
was one who just came across it by chance, no-one told me about it, so
probably others don't know about it either?
If you go there and type in your surname, see what comes up, you may be
surprised and find there is a special Mailing List, for your surname.
I am sure this will be boring to the experts, but to the novices like
myself, I think you will be pleased with what you find.
This is the link, perhaps you would like to forward to other lists. I have
posted it to GLOUCESTER, MONMOUTHSHIRE & SOMERSET.

For Helen Verall,
Apologies for sending this via the list.
Helen, two attempts to mail you in the last week have bounced.
Can't see why.
Sorry, ---there is no James KNOX on my "miscellaneous" fiche.
Your nearest LDS centre should have the complete set of "born at sea"
fiche. I was given the one I have. No idea from whence it came.
If I come across anything re your Knox family, 1846, I'll get in touch.
.
Mollie.
I am searching for information on the children of Richard BATT and Ann
JENKINS in the Newport and Porthcawl area. Below is an explanation of my
ancestors. I am trying to locate any documentation or information to
confirm any of the names below. I know nothing of the area or which record
office might contain this information. I could not find any Batts on census
records but surely there must be some for this area.
RICHARD9 BATT (JOHN, CHARLES, WILLIAM) was born February 14, 1816 (possibly
1814) in Pensford, Publow, Somerset. Richard moved to Newport prior to 1837
where he married and had five children. He then moved to Porthcawl between
1846 and 1849 and had another four children. Richard, in about 1873, moved
to America and died July 4, 1904 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He married ANN
JENKINS, December 25, 1837 in St. Woolos, Monmouth, daughter of JONAS
JENKINS and MARGARET.

Hello all,
I live in Suffolk and with very little family left, my father died last November I am trying to fulfil a promise I made to him of trying to find out where we came from. Family rumour says that we came from Thornbury in Gloucester (already subscribed to that list) I know that my grandfather came to stay with reletives after the death of his perents. I have very little to go on as older cousins who have moved away are withholding family data from me, I am the youngest child of a youngest child, I started a database of the Lippiatt family and although I have a lot of Lippiatts and I think I have found my family. I need to prove who Edward Lippiatt is. He lived in Pontnewydd Cwmbran and died in 1924 along with his son Tom. If anyone can answer some questions for me I would be so grateful. I have two elderly reletives left and one is my mother who gave me as much as she could but her mind wanders and my Uncle who has Alzheimers and has taken a dislike to me. I don't know why, he keeps telling me if I find any money it belongs to his son, (of course we know there is no money) I soppose thats Alzheimers for you, his daughter on the other hand has asked me to continue and although she would try to help she finds it very difficult to find anything about our ancestors. A very difficult situation for me.
My questions are does anyone have any Lippiatts on their 1881 census of Monmouthshire?
I believe Edwards death was reported in a local newspaper is there any way I can find out?
Where can I find out about his death, I don't want to shell out for a death certificate if it's the wrong one.
I am trying to find out how old he was when he died.
Any help would be gratefully received, the lippiatt I'm looking for was married to a Chamberlain I believe.
Yours Karen Rose
PS If anyone needs help near Suffolk/Norfolk I would be only to happy to help

Hi Listers
Can anyone offer any suggestions as to how I find out where my great
grandfather ended up?
William Leigh (born 28 June 1861 in Abertillery) was head of the household at
Castle Street, Abertillery, in the 1881 census. His wife was Hester Leigh and
his son William Henry Leigh (born 28 April 1880).
Hester died soon after and family legend has it that William then emigrated
to the States, probably arriving at Philadelphia, leaving his son in Wales.
He apparently remarried and had another family in America, of which I know
absolutely nothing.
I've looked in the Passenger Lists in Gloucester Library with no joy, and
would be grateful if anyone can point me in the right direction so I can find
when my great grandfather left these shores, when and where he arrived in the
States, so I can start researching his life over there.
Many thanks,
Jane Leigh
Mike
I should have been a little clearer.
Yes, entering a place name in the Census Place field (not Birthplace field)
gives a list of those residing in that place. It is an alphabetic list
which does not help to find the start of the place. Of course, you can pick
one, then go to Neighbors and scroll back. However the place may be split
into more than one section on the CD.
For example, my index shows that Newport is in two sections and enables you
to set up two bookmarks (eg Newport1 & Newport2) to locate the start of
each section.

I am not sure what you mean. I have no trouble
findind a place, all you have to do is type the name
of the place in the birthplace field.
Mike John of Newport, Gwent.
