I am seeking information on a link to John Jeremiah, born 10 May, 1830 in
Pontypool. He left South Wales for the U.S. in 1852. I had seen evidence
recently as a new subscriber of this surname, though tied to other areas of
South Wales. I would appreciate any information which may even have the least
- little connection to the Jeremiah linage.
Thanks - for any time spent in advance.

Hallo,
Only a few weeks ago I wrote to this cemetery office to ask for a search for
some graves. I listed out seven that I was looking for (all the same family)
and they never charged a penny and they were very quick in replying.

There are two municipal cemeteries in Newport. One is at Christchurch and
the other is St Woolos Cemetery. There are no on-line indexes and you will
have to write to the office at St Woolos Cemetery for information. The
information I was given earlier this year was that they will search if you
know the approximate date/s but they will charge £15. More than one search
can be carried out for that sum. The main office hold the records for both
cemeteries. The address is:
St Woolos Cemetery
Bassaleg Road
Newport
Tel. 01633 263864
Hope this helps

Hi Angela,
Thanks for that info. Is the St Woolos Cemetery different to the cemetery at
St Woolos Cathedral. I have a monumental inscriptions fiche from Gwent FHS
for that one?

If he was an employee of somebody, he wouldn't be in a trade directory,

It would be so nice if they listed everybody!

I have a very nice vignetted photograph of a William Haines--a quite
handsome mustachioed gentleman. Guessing his age, I would say he is between
35 and 45. He wears suit and tie with the starched high round-edged collar,
so guessing again I'd say the picture was taken in the 1890's.
On the back is written "Cousin Will Haines, Pontymister, W Newport, Mon."
Does this name and locale ring a bell with anyone? (My g-grandmother was
Mary Ann Haines, daughter of Thomas Haines.)

Hello List,
I am new to your list and am desperately trying to track a very stubborn grandfather by the name of Herbert Charles DAVIES, born about 1984 (going by his marriage certificate). The family was always told he was born in Newport, Monmouthshire, but I am unable to track him down, any suggestions would be most welcome on this one. The only other information I have is that his father's name was also Herbert Charles DAVIES and his mother was only referred to by the subsequent grandchildren as "Grandma Moon" (possibly her maiden name??)
He married Ethel SYMONS in Middlesex in 1918, but some time from 1930-1934 the family returned to Wales and lived with Herbert's parents. The street they lived in was Cairlean Road - can SKS tell me if there is such a road in Newport? In 1934 Ethel SYMONS/DAVIES died in the hospital (any clues which one around Newport)and the family was led to believe she was buried in Bassaleg Cemetery. Just before WW2, two of her sons separately travelled to Bassaleg to find the grave, but with no success. Are there any records/transcripts available for Bassaleg which would help me find her. The family was not very well off, so there is a possibility that her's is an unmarked grave.
I apologise in advance for the potted history of this family, but I am desperately trying to find any information that will get me on the right track.

Hello Everyone
Alexander EDGAR died 13 February 1900 at Abergavenny Asylum. Does anyone know if there are any records available for the Asylum and if so where they might be held
Should they be held in Cwmbran would anyone be willing to check the records please?
Alexander was married to Mary (WATTS) EDGAR who I think lived at Brook Cottage, Goytre after
her husband died until her own death in April 1912 aged 72 years.

Iam researching the Collins family of Nantyglo and Blaina. John Collins was
born in Corwen Merioneth in about 1838, but was living in High Street,
Aberystruth in 1881 with his wife Margaret, born in Risca and their sons,
Samuel , 21; Ivor, 15 and Aneurin, 8. By '91 John was a widower, still
living in High Street with one son, Ivor. Aneurin was my grandfather so I
know (more or less) what became of him, but does anyone know anything of
Margaret and the other sons and what became of John afterwards?
In 1895 my grandfather, Aneurin, married Margaret Ellen Jones who in 1891
was 16 and lived in Cwmcelyn Road with her parents John E and Mary Jones
and sisters Elizabeth, 13, Rachel 6, Ceinwen (then a baby) and brother
Francis aged 3. I think one of the sisters eventually married John Tobin,
but I know nothing else about the family.
Marjorie.
I am relatively new to this forum. I would like to know if there is anyone
out there that is researching the SIMON or SIMONS surname line. Also Edward
or Evan surnames. Most of them were from Gelligaer/Bedwellty/Eglwysilian.
If there is anyone that could help please let me know.
Thank you, Joe Simons
