I'm 95% done with a new guide to marriage records for Minnesota -- it has
the 'rules' for getting a license as well as info on microfilming status,
probate court and Justice of the Peace marriage records. There will be
another volume on birth and death records, as soon as I can get it
together. This is one of those quicksand projects, where everything is
fluctuating and changing. So I thought perhaps you GenWeb people might help
pin this down a little better.
I'd be interested if you are aware of the current location for the original
books of vital records for your county(ies) -- I suspect that many
registers which were microfilmed were then given to local historical
societies or libraries. I think I have a pretty good handle on which
counties have been filmed by the Mormons or by their own courts or in
concert with other counties. What I'd really appreciate is a note about the
original registers themselves, if they are no longer at the county
courthouse -- be sure to identify your county(ies)!
Thanks in advance for your help.
