Terri,
Thanks for the reminder to check for broken links. I hadn't done that
in a while and found several on each of my sites. And I would be very
interested a program that would check for broken links.
I too really liked the old cgi query manager. Since the change over I
haven't paid much attention to the queries. But recently I got the
following information on the ALL List. I'm going to paste it below.
Tom Raynor has now completed tweaks to his USGenWeb Query Manager,
making it a true, USGenWeb-wide central repository, query entry and
search system...with no ads.
Now, no matter what USGenWeb page someone visits that has the QM links,
they will be able to enter queries for not only that area, but also for
any other USGenWeb area, from your page! Your visitors will also be
able to search queries for your area, or any other area...no more
having to move around from state to state and county to county, to
enter and search queries!
But wait...that's not all you get :) When you set up your QM links, you
can customize "your" QM entry and search forms, so to your visitors it
looks like they never left your site. You can even use your own
background image. It only takes about 1 minute to get your QM links,
the HTML code is generated automatically, you just copy and paste.
For the full story, and to try out Query Manager, and for how to get
your QM links, go to our home page at
http://www.usgenweb.us and scroll down to the Query
Manager section.

HI All,
Most of you are aware of the change in SC. Jackie had to make the
difficult decision to step down as SC. She has done a great job, as have the
other SCs before, and the work they all put in has made the USGenweb MN site
awesome. I know, with the help of all you county ccs, that we can continue
to grow.
Now on to some business:
First, all ccs need to be on this list. This is an Administrative mail
list to keep us all connected and informed. Anyone who is on this list for
other reasons please let me know and we can help you connect with another
mail list or possibly start another mail list with your purpose in mind.
Any suggestions/ideas can be sent to this list or you can email me
direct (rwfonkenmn(a)worldnet.att.net) and run them by me first. Please add
your county names with the message.
I was doing some surfing on the county sites and on some had a few
problems with broken links. Does anyone have a suggestion on how we can keep
our sites more up-to-date? Is there a program that we can use to check the
sites out once a month or so to check for broken links that would be
compatible with most of the web site editing programs used? What works for
you?
Queries are a big problem for me. What are some of the ways you all are
handling them? I really liked the old cgi and since they changed I have
really slacked in this area. I would have liked to have kept the queries
within the counties. I noticed a few county sites are still linked to the
"old query system" that does not exist any more and these need to be
updated.
Enough for now.
Have a great day,
Terri rwfonkenmn(a)worldnet.att.net
