One person especially someone retired and good at a computer can get a lot done on their
own.
I hate
ancestry.com too. Someone goes to every cemetery list in our state. Grabs all the
data. Slaps it together on one list. Slaps their own name on the big list and is getting
awards. Fires off a copy of the big list to
ancestry.com So all the volunteer work
helps feed money to
ancestry.com....
Thank God that person is not a relative on mine.

Actually, I've been purely amazed at what one *really* dedicated person can
do. I sent several hundred KY death certs to Cassy Sommers when she first
launced "Tombstone Central." She seems to be exceedingly good at rallying
volunteers to support *her* projects. It all depends on getting the word
out, finding people who are willing to type things up or donate records, and
devoting time to building the website.

What I hate is
ancestry.com having MN birth records online for living
people. I can't even get an Iowa death record for a relative that died back
in 1936. Plus I go down to the MN History Center and I can't look at
certain pages of some super old county birth records, because there were a
few adoptions back in the late 1800s and early 1900s. But people can find
anything they want on Minnesotans that are still living! That just makes no
sense.

Well, Colleen spends weekends on this project and posted on every county
board.
I checked to see if ND, IA, WI had the same thing but no site came up.
I looked at the source code and found nothing special.
I ran parts of her email through google and just found every query board
where she posted. She knows enough web authoring to use a template.
Colleen obviously hates spam with how her email address is presented. I
believe a bad person would come up with a very common first and last name.
I believe rootsweb staff can grab her IP address when she does an upload.
My concern is that she posts to my boards again. I know she is going to do
it to get more traffic. The way she is wording her pages suggests Colleen
is not a CC. I wish her the best but I doubt it will become what she hopes.
I would rather see her spending time getting cemeteries in her neighborhood
online. Or adopting another county. She can take one of my Kittson, Lake
Of the Woods, Clearwater, Beltrami. She can handle all four of them easily
on her weekend schedule. They get little traffic. Little email. But she
should not sit back and expect 1000s to register anything. Which comes to
my next topic on another email.

I had this site posted to the Yellow Medicine county board and wondered if
any of you have seen it too and what your thoughts were on it:
