Colleen,
Thank you for your question. Please feel free to ask questions any time.
First, I have no other position of commitment in any other state save for
being a county coordinator. Thus Minnesota would be my only state to
coordinate.
My wife is from Wilkin County and I have visited it many times in the last
25 years. I have working relationships with people in government,
historical societies and individuals whom I've met and coordinated adding
material on line from biographies, land records, history and death records.
I, too, have past experience in being a SC having been the SC for North
Dakota from 1996-2003 (73 counties) and Georgia (161 counties) from around
2000-2003.
Having been offered to host counties and the State of North Dakota in the
founding year, 1996, I have always been committed to the premise of the
USGenWeb Project, regardless of the personal fiefdom agendas some
personalities have displayed over the years.
I was a proponent of the National Bylaws and voted for the current working
regulations the Advisory Board uses.
Handling a project as large as Georgia was, I found it easier to break down
the tasks with a management team of 10, whose job it was to assist
coordinators in their region with coding problems, finding data to add and
the like. They were the first point of contact for CCs even though my door
was always open as well.
While Minnesota does not have the same number of counties as Georgia, I
would envision something similar for MNGenWeb.
I've made mistakes, learned from them. I try to treat people as I would
like to be treated. Thus I would listen to views from across the board,
find consensus and move on from there. There is no need to denigrate any
member for their beliefs or stance on any subject even if I happen to
disagree with them. Rather it would be my job as a fellow coordinator to
better express my beliefs so that perhaps the other person would better
understand my position. Perhaps neither will change their view on the
subject but at the very least we would know well each other's views.
I host two county sites in Tennessee, where I live and am a board director
and secretary of TNGenNet, the umbrella organization that TNGenWeb falls
under. I also host four counties in New York state where my father was
from.
I host other sites for other entities including a couple of personal sites
- but those are mostly static.
My apologies for not replying earlier today, but I was out walking and
enjoying the 8 inches of snow we got last night, a real rarity for us.
I trust this answers your question. If not, please feel free to send a
follow up post.
With kindest regards,
Tim
