I am leaning towards keeping my county at Rootsweb because it doesn't require me to do
anything! Good point about Rootsweb being the hook for Ancestry, Tim. It makes my
decision seem like a good idea and not just because I don't want the extra work.
Spring in April would be good.

This hassle Tim mentions is my biggest problem with moving.
I'm just making sure that I have a mirror image of all my websites on my desktop.
It's kept me out of serious trouble in past.

Just curious - does spring come at the end of May?
Last week with our Minnesota dusting of snow, across the way, I saw my
neighbor's green grass sticking through. The daffodils which are now
confused as to when spring is likely will start blooming mid February.
They like the infestation of Canada geese we have their seasons all mixed
up.
I was sad to see my counters go on several pages when a previous host or
two mucked those up for me.
As for Rootsweb, I'll plan to stay there as long as possible, just because
of the ease of use, the counters and the hassle of moving in general. I
did one mass move in 2011 and that took a month.
In my opinion, Rootsweb will remain free as a hosting service because it is
a loss leader for Ancestry. Bring the folks in for free data, splash
Ancestry ads all over and the fish will bite enough to make it worthwhile
to Ancestry.

Hi all,
Just a quick note to tell you all that yesterday I uploaded a much needed
and long overdue face lift to my Fillmore County MNGenWeb site. I lost my
visitor counter in the process (kind of forgot about it) but that isn't
important anyway. Now I need to decide if I should move the site away from
Rootsweb, and if so, where to put it.
I need to add more links to other sites of interest such as gravestone
projects and find a grave. In the process of searching for such sites, I
became a little frustrated at the number of places and projects out there
for grave info. I wish things were more consolidated. Too much clicking!
I used to be the moderator of the Fillmore mailing list and have now
re-upped that. Not sure how or when I lost that job. Now if I could just
get Rootsweb/Ancestry to actually notify me when there are posts to the
message boards on my favorites list, I would be a happy camper. Somewhere
along the line I stopped receiving notices, including Fillmore for which I
am moderator, even though I am signed up for them.
If you happen to see something on my site that doesn't work or is just
plain stupid, please let me know!
Thinking of spring in beautiful Fillmore County Minnesota,
Marge Utley
