Learn something new everyday...I always thought it was the gopher,
turns out we can't decide. Among the proposals, there are the
white-tailed deer, timber wolf and gopher. In 1973, the "Angry voter"
was proposed. I wonder how far that got.
Notable others were the mascot (gopher) and parasite (Clippings
(1977) suggest both leech and "legislator.") proposals.
