Don't know if anyone is interested in this or not, just passing it along.

Hi, my name is Chip Brown and I am also a volunteer of the UsGenWeb.
We have created a free Genealogy News Ticker for individuals and states in
our project (link below). We would like to see if we can get enough
support
to make this a useful utility for other volunteers.
I think that getting our pages seen is one of the biggest challenges
facing a
volunteer project like our own. Being a Dot Com owner myself, I
understand
that without exposure we cease to have visitors.
But, being a volunteer project we can't afford to pay for advertising.
Those
banner exchanges just simply don't work. When we say
"What's New" on our
pages (as many of us do) who sees it? The people that are on our pages
anyway. Our free ticker will allow one state to tell what's new on their
site
and have it displayed on a ticker on thousands of other genealogy
pages.
This
will also include independent pages as well as pages in other
projects. We
will maintain several of these tickers and rotate them on different pages.
THERE WILL NOT BE ANY COMMERCIAL ADVERTISING ON THIS TICKER! Only
genealogy
news. This news will be from individuals as well as CNN, ABC and
sources
from
within the industry. All news will be to free information, never to
anyone
selling anything. If someone is caught using our ticker to sell services,
they will be removed.
What better way to let people know of new file uploads and free services
we
find?

We would like to encourage you to place this ticker on your page(s) and to
also send us any news or updates you would like to see on the ticker.
Placing
the ticker on your page requires no more than a few lines of copy and
paste
code.
This ticker is not owned by the UsGenWeb, Rootsweb or any other source
outside of
Maynardville.Com. We accept funds from none of these entities.
Please feel free to forward this on to your UsGenWeb mailing lists if you
like.
Thank you for considering it.
