Hi all,
I am trying not to be resistant to change, but.... I liked the old
GenConnect system better, too. I wish I had a suggestion for those who want
to try something else.
What bothers me most is that all those queries, bios and obits now 'belong'
to Rootsweb and
Ancestry.com. I know, they really belong to the poster, but
then the poster wasn't asked if his query could be moved and merged with
Rootsweb/Ancestry.com's queries. And the poster can't get his query back to
put on our GenWeb sites in some other sort of query method. I guess that is
what we should expect after having free web space at Rootsweb for several years.
I feel like I have been ambushed - or at least the Fillmore Co queries have
been. The queries used to be associated with my county -- people who came
to my county site posted a query there about their Fillmore ancestors. I'm
guessing that now lots of people won't ever see the Fillmore GenWeb site and
that's a shame because that is where they learn how and where to research
people in Fillmore Co. Genealogy is more than trading queries and gedcoms
or searching databases on the web.
Well, there. I'm done whining.
I did post a little message in the admin box on the new Fillmore board:
This board is a merger of the former Fillmore Query, Obituary and Biography
GenConnect boards. Everything previously posted to those boards is included
here.
Please be sure to visit the Fillmore MNGenWeb page at
rootsweb.com/~mnfillmo.
Hopefully, I will like this board better with time.
