Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
I have Paint Shop Pro 8 pre COrel buy out and can export jpg's to gif's

Mike,
All the logo entries I have received are on the Logo Contest Pages. At
the time you asked this question, I had not received one from Kermit. I
put them up as received, certainly can post them if I don't have then
now can I?

Thanks everyone, I love free stuff and I have used lunapix just a bit.
Heard of Gimp this summer but haven't used it. Will give them all a whirl!

I've been playing with this today to come up with a solution on making
images transparent.
So I thought I'd share this with others.

I know we are close but let's please do not put up copyrights of 2015. That should be placed on your sites in January.
Thank you.

LOL,
Thanks Gail, I threw that up right before uploading. Will get it changed.
With trying to fix my washing machine, getting Stearns online and the awful
weather, I knew I would miss something! Thanks Martha! Can't wait until
there is a bunch of data online. Then the search engine gets put up!

Greetings Stearns Neighbors,
Stearns county is finally online. Index and 2 pages just got put up as
guinea pigs so we now have a web presence. Interestingly, the address is 9
letters instead of the usual 8.

I came into this world with nothin'
And, I still have nothin'
Laverne,
I do the same. I don't think I would start a surname page on any site I
have, but since I inherited some with sites from other coordinators, I've
kept and updated when I could. Occasionally someone will ask to have their
info added and I do so. I've finally had a college student produce a
script for me so that I can easily extract email addresses from a query
page, to write to see if the addresses are still valid rather than going
through them one by one.
I did start a specific page on one county for a particular surname of
interest only because over time I had collected several resources
particular to that surname, which happens to be in my personal heritage.
I still do manual queries because I find the boards cumbersome at best and
while I will link to them, never use them.

I have received requests from a few folks that they are receiving too much
email. I totally understand. It is natural that this occurs when a state
is going through such extensive revamping. I apologize for that; however,
I would like to request that if you have questions that they be directed
privately to myself and/or Shirley. This will cut down the number of posts
to the mail list. Then either Shirley or I can decide if the answer should
be addressed just back to you or to everyone, and we can then add the mail
list address to the group.
Thanks so much.

Hi everyone.I'm looking at the Counties page of our new state website. I see that it has all of the CCs emails on that page.
I would prefer that my email not be listed on this page. I have it on all my county sites. But I have found in the past that when it is listed on the State site I tend to get alot of spam and inquiries that don't have anything to do with my counties. Would it be possible to have it removed from that page?
Thanks,Vikki GrayBeltrami, Clearwater and Lake of the Woods Counties
Hi Gail,
I’m still keeping both on my three sites.
They are not being used much these past few years even after I advertise or post them more prominently. Periodically I send out a test email to all email addresses on the site and then any that bounce are removed. The exception is the query list. I leave the message there as some of them are informative.
To keep up with dead links I use xenu. Every three months doesn’t produce a long list.
When I took over Clay I found that the query board had not been used since 1998. For the heck of it, I tested all the emails and only two were active so in the case of Clay I didn’t even bother keeping. For the two that were good, I put a link to the email address on the surname list. I did start a new query board and I use minuteboard.com. I’ve had 26 lookeelous since 1 Nov but no posts. Pretty much the same activity on my two other sites.
After testing the emails on the surname list, the numbers went from the high twenties to eight with valid emails. As before, pretty much the same activity on my other two sites.
I’m sure you know the queries are required but not the surnames. I don’t think there is much of a value to either one anymore unless one has a very active county. My three sites do not have high volume to begin with and doubt they ever will since they are primarily farm counties.
I see more query activity for my counties by being signed up with the county rootsweb mailing list. I’ll read a query and then check to see if the subjects are on my site through the site search. Where there are hits I suggest to them to go to my county site.
Don’t fade away Gail. We need you.

Just a quick question then I will fade away...
Are people still using Surname pages and Query pages on their web sites.
I know these are hard to keep updated and know that anything that is on any
of my site pages the links are probably all dead.
Same with all the links, one of my counties is nothing but a page of
links. I tend to not use links because they always end up dead.

The use of GenWeb instead of xxGenWeb or USGenWeb must be an oversight?
Else Minnesota GenWeb would be just fine as it has been for 18 years. By
the way, we do live in the past - because genealogy is rarely about the
future.
Tongue in cheek.
