Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb

Thank you, Lynn. That is very helpful. PICO was a free searching tool and I used it for many years. But it went out of business awhile ago. I'll replace those searches with FreeFind.

I have a family portrait I would like to donate to the Swedish Institute. I just don't know how to go about it. I found a matching portrait in some Swedish museum. I did a bunch of research on it, but then never completed the project.

I CC a New York GenWeb site with many visitors weekly. I have always

I'm thrilled that you want to stay with your counties. I will note my
spreadsheet.
All of you should know, that you will need a strong, committed SC. I may
temporarily appoint someone to redesign your State page for a better look,
but that is not beyond and requiring special skills other than what you are
all able to deal with.
Personally I don't think this state has enough active members to lead the
state and be able to do everything you would want for a State Coordinator.
I am going to request one of our AB members who is skilled at web design to
put together a new state page for you, I think that will help invigorate
your entire project. That person will not be your permanent State
Coordinator unless they fall in love with your state and would want to run
for that position and if you all are interested in electing that person as
your SC. However, once your state is up and running better, ALL OF YOU
PERMANENT CCS WILL BE ABLE TO THEN ELECT YOUR OWN SC FROM YOUR MEMBERSHIP.
I also want you all to know that this is a highly unusual situation. I
don't think you should just let anyone take over your state without your
agreement. Let's get this state back in order for all of you.
I have the login and password information for your state page. Unless you
have a huge objection, I am now going to speak with my Advisory Board to
select someone to begin on your state page. I would do it myself but don't
feel that I am that good at designing sites and understanding everything
that will be needed to do so. All of my own county sites are on Google
sites. Since your SC probably will not be familiar with dealing with
Google sites, it would be silly for me to put one up for you.
LET ME KNOW YOUR THOUGHTS. I CAN ALWAYS PULL THE AB MEMBER ONCE YOU ARE
READY FOR AN ELECTION. I WILL ALSO BE ASSIGNING AT LEAST OLMSTED AND
STEARNS TO INDIVIDUALS WHO TRULY WANT TO ADOPT THE COUNTIES THEY WILL BE
ASSIGNED, OR THEY ARE TEMPORARY VOLUNTEERS FOR THESE COUNTIES. I WILL
ANNOUNCE THEM ON YOUR MAIL LIST AS SOON AS THEY ARE ASSIGNED.
Thank you so much for working with me.

I need to know who that is subbed to this mail list wants to retain their
counties. In reviewing most of the counties in MN, I see that most of them
have not been updated for a very long time. I am also going to be sending
private emails to those who are listed as the county coordinators that I do
not hear from. I am in the process of obtaining access to the MNGenWeb
mail list for the CCs so I can determine who is and isn't subbed to the
mail list. My understanding is that some CCs weren't even aware that was a
mail list.
PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU ARE COMMITTED TO CONTINUING WITH YOUR COUNTY.
I'M SEEING "LAST UPDATED" DATES FROM 2002 - 2014. VERY FEW HAVE BEEN
UPDATED DURING 2013-2014.
I'm not interested in "firing" anyone from a county that they would like to
retain, but researchers of MN have been very discouraged that anything is
being done in this state. I would really like for MNGenWeb to get turned
around and excel for themselves and visitors.

Denise Wells,
Still continuing as Dakota County, MN CC.
Although it was only updated 12 months ago. Maybe it is time to consider
opening for adoption?

2nd issue,
I would like your opinion as to the value of a US wide county map and
links I made at
http://www.tc.umn.edu/~bluhm002/map/us_48.htm
This has not been update for over 5 years. I'd guess 75% links still good.
Chuck,
Oh what a tangled web we weave. When first we practice to conceive.

What are other county and state coordinators using to replace PICO search? If you replaced your search function, what did you choose to replace it with and what criteria did you use to in order to choose?
Thanks,
Kathy
Denise,
I'm the CC for Pennington County and Red Lake County. I would like to
retain both counties.

I've been trying to reach both Terri and Michael. Neither of them have
responded to any attempt to locate them.
I am the recently elected National Coordinator. I believe from information
that I have received that neither of them have communicated with anyone and
my understanding is that they both have had serious medical issues and that
it is highly probable that neither of them are able to maintain the
responsibilities of managing the state. Consequently, I am hereby declaring
that the state of MN shall have an election for a new State Coordinator.
Please reply with your name and the county(ies) you are the CC for.
Thank you and I hope to hear from all of you over the next few days.
