I would run, not walk, to the County (where your ancestor lived)
Genealogical Society because they would be the most likely to have this
information or know where to find it. They also usually have extremely
capable and experienced people to assist you. Also verrrrry nice. Another
source may be the local library (to you ancestor) because they might also be
able to answer this query or know where it might be obtained. Good hunting.

the 1900 census his occupation says "capitalist", which I've been told is
someone whose money makes money [so to speak]. I'm interested in what
business he may have been in.
