In checking the 1880 Michigan Census I find the following persons with the
surname you have given:
MCCALLUM, James Self <1833> M W Bir: VT
Cen: MI Cheboy Cheboygan
MC CALLUM, James Other <1856> M W Bir: CAN
Cen: MI Cheboy Inverness
MCCALLUM, James Son <1870> M W Bir: MI
Cen: MI Marque Marquette
MC CALLUM, Jamie Son <1876> M W Bir: MI
Cen: MI Oceana Greenwood
Prescott Michigan is in Ogemaw County, but as you can see none of the
above are shown in that county. You will note that none of those persons
were born in the year that you gave either. I also did a soundex on the name
and here are the other "hits" that were given to me.
MCCOLLEM, Jams Other <1852> M W Bir: CAN
Cen: MI Oaklan Bloomfield
MCCOLLUM, James Other <1852> M W Bir: CAN
Cen: MI Oaklan Troy
MCCOLLUM, James Son <1858> M W Bir: MI
Cen: MI Muskeg Muskegon
MCCOLLOM, James Son <1879> M W Bir: MI
Cen: MI Genese Atlas
Michigan began keeping "official" vital records in 1867, and with a
combination of census and checking of vital records you should be able to
determine what you want to know. You don't mention if you have the obit or
death records on your ancestor, or if you have a burial place. All of which
could give you clues in looking for the information you mention.
Good luck with your search.

Subject: [MIGEN] What to do now? Sharp from Ireland married to
McCallum/McCollum went to MI
James S. McCALLUM was born on 11 Jan 1865 in Prescott ? , MI
His mother's last name was SHARP / SHARPE who married a McCOLLUM
But the name was carried over in the children as McCALLUM
I was told that his mother was from Ireland. She was from the part they
called the Orange Section.
How do I find out if she married McCOLLUM in Ireland and came over or if she
came over with her parents and met McCOLLUM and married in MI.?
I can't seem to find my g grandfather James S. McCOLLUM / McCALLUM who was
married to my g grandmother Daisy Mae BROWN.
There children were: James Murry McCALLUM, Mary Ellen McCALLUM who was
married to a Kenneth HARTLERODE and she died young in a car crash leaving
behind one young son, Phillip and my g grandmother raised him and adopted
him
when she was married again later on, Anges May McCALLUM, Frances Louise
McCALLUM, Margurerite Lucille McCALLUM who died in infancy.
Another twist in this family is after my g grandfather died, Daisy moved to
Indiana I believe at this time and married a Nathan Oliver SMITH. I don't
think they met and married in Michigan. I was told by my grandmother that
Nathan adopted only her changing the last name to SMITH. I was also told by
the son of Mary Ellen who died and Dasiy raised that Nathan adopted all the
children and changed the last name to SMITH.
So back then would there a court record of this or not?
Can I get one if there is? That is if I can find out if Daisy and Nathan
were in MI. Or IN. My guess is IN. around Hammond maybe
I have no marriage date for Daisy and James either. James S. McCOLLUM /
McCALLUM died on 13 Dec 1918 leaving my g grandmother widowed.
Can anyone help?
God Bless
Pam
