Subject: [MIGEN] Michigan Native American Research Center Onlin
A new site has been developed under the MIGenWeb Project for Native American
researchers with ties to Michigan. Documents are being put online from
microfilms at present and are searchable and ready to use by you. There are
census records, lists of those eligible for land grants, lists of students
from schools, and many other lists containing names from documents created
by the US Federal Government. Treaties with names of tribal members and the
Chiefs that signed them are going online. Also there are lists of those who
received provisions, links to cemeteries readings that are online, lists of
traders and licenses, lists of where posts were sanctioned for trading. The
site is a wiki to make it easy for volunteers to get data online and
contribute to the site.
Do you have family ties to Michigan Native American? A passion to help other
researchers? Do you have a place that you can get source records that
contains Michigan Native Americans, such as films with census data, vital
records, cemetery readings, some old photos, etc.? Please contact us if you
would like to volunteer to help by typing, or or donating records.
The MIGenWeb Project came into existence in 1996 when a group of volunteers
got together to get web sites online to help with Michigan genealogy. We are
completely made up of volunteers and do not charge people to use the data we
get online. The organization is free to the public and strives to keep
putting records online. We are always willing to receive new volunteers who
want to help with either typing, or building a web site that needs some
attention. There are many records that can go online yet and just need to be
typed up by people who are willing to share some time. If you would like to
give back to the genealogical community, please consider helping us.
