The Sunfield Historical Society, Sunfield, MI has announced the publication of two new
titles, I Remember Grandma : Florence Ervay Root, by Sarah Austin Myers, and Sebewa High
School 1891-1971, by Nancy Stemler Thompson. The release of each coincides with this
year's annual local festival, the Sunfield Farmers' Picnic, held in Sunfield's
Floyd VanBuren village park each August.
Both books have local history themes, each offering endearing glimpses into families and
institutions from the area's past and each with plots beginning before the turn of the
20th Century and spanning into the middle of the 20th Century and modern times. I
Remember Grandma features a granddaughter's recollections of Florence Ervay Root, a
very strong and spiritual woman whose poetry reveals her connection to her family as well
as her delightful sense of humor. Sebewa High School 1891-1971 contains student, teacher,
and enrollments, memorabilia, and class and reunion photos. The surnames of many who
attended Sebewa High School have become mainstays in Sunfield and surrounding communities.
I Remember Grandma sells for $12.00 and Sebewa High School for $20.00. Proceeds benefit
the Sunfield Historical Society, which is a thriving group that is very active in
promoting and preserving local and Eaton County history.
Previous Sunfield Historical Society publications are also for sale and include The
Sunfield High School History, $25.00, Myrties Memories, $12.00, Sunfield Cemetery Guide,
$20.00, and the Society also has copies of Sunfield Town & Country, published by the
