Have old books?
********************************
Do you have old yearbooks, club membership lists, church membership lists, alumni
directories, business, fraternal, professional organization directories, any type of book
or booklet that list people?
Are they taking up space, but you can't bring yourself to throw them out?
Well, don't throw them out - there is a place for them!
Where can I send them?
**********************************
The Historical Genealogy Department of the Allen County Public Library in Fort Wayne,
Indiana is interested in them. We are one of the largest genealogy collections in the
United States. People visit us for all over, including from foreign countries, looking
for their families and ancestors.
Only have recent years?
**********************************
Do you think we don't want your stuff because it is too recent? Wondering what good a
1998 directory might do a family history researcher? Many directories list members that
were born in the early part of the 20th century or before. Increasingly researchers are
looking for people born in the early 1900's. These directories are very helpful.
These directories help place a person in a location at a specific time. Not only do they
list names, they help the family history researcher find out more about their relative;
what type of organization, business, interests and hobbies they might have had or been
involved in.
We are a permanent home for your materials
***************************************************
Of course we are also interested in older, more historical materials, but a lot of us
don't have those. (But if you do, think about donating those too!) This is a great
way to clean out your valuable stash of things you really know you need to part with, but
can't. By offering them to the department, it is like putting them in an attic. They
will continue to be available, not only to you, but to others that might benefit from
finding a relative, a basic goal of genealogical research. The genealogy department will
be its permanent home. We don't discard our any thing we add to our collection.
Let us be your attic or garage.
*************************************
Think about it; let us be your attic. If you have materials you are not sure of, please
contact me and we can discuss it. If you have materials you would like to send, we would
enjoy housing them.
Note: Arrangements can be made for postage.
Where do I send them?
