Hi Listers,
I am normally quite quiet on this list but I need to respond to this.
I manage many mailing lists and find there to be many situations that arise.
Every mailing list has their own rules and regulations. My philosophy has
always been. I want to know what may be out there on my family.
Photographs, something with their name on it, a yearbook, a cookbook with
their name and recipe.. a photo of the town they lived in.. you get the idea. I
happened to find the mirror from the barber shop that my husband spent his
youth getting his haircut. Dorky.. maybe.. (now I need a photo of that barber
shop)
But even just from a genealogy vs personal stand point.
1. What genealogists does not dream of finding anything family
related?
2. I do volunteer lookups and invariably people tend to ask if I know of
any photos of ....anything pertaining~
3. All of the items make up a 'visible picture' of a certain period in our
ancestors or our lives
4. I do feel the material should be area related to the list it is sent on.
But then I also feel that emails should be --snipped- when replied to and
that does not happen alot either. So.. to repeat: This is my opinion.
The list could go on and on but I am sure the idea is here. I am not aware of
the rules of this particular list but the listowner is the one that does the
reprimands. Those who have an issue write to the listowner. Often times a
writer wastes more space in complaints then the original email.
This is just one genie's opinion. This Inquiring mind wants to know. Forgive
my intrusion as I step down off my soap box and go back to my corner - minus
the spider.
Thank you
