Using the Data Bases in
NewEnglandAncestors.org will be presented
September 27 by Judith Huber Halseth, Ed.D. This computer demonstration
will acquaint people with online resources from the New England Historic
Genealogical Society (NEHGS). Patrons may access these data bases at
the Van Buren District Library, which holds an Institutional Membership
in NEHGS. More than ninety million names are included in two thousand
searchable databases, which include: The New England Historical and
Genealogical Register, 1847-1994; The Great Migration Begins: Immigrants
to New England, 1620-1633; and Massachusetts Vital Records to 1850.
Other data bases contain names from church records, cemeteries, family
genealogies, probate records, vital records, military records, etc. The
website was redesigned for easier navigation, effective September 1.
People attending the meeting may want to bring the name of an early New
England ancestor (with place, dates, and spouse if known) to learn what
may be available in the data bases at
NewEnglandAncestors.org. Please
write the information about your New England ancestor on a 3 x 5 card or
other paper, to give to the presenter. This program will also interest
people with ancestors in upstate New York state, as many New Englanders
migrated into upstate New York, before or after the American
Revolution. Genealogists may want to check out the website
www.NewEnglandAncestors.org at home, however the data bases are
accessible only with a Research Membership, or with an Institutional
Membership at the Library.
The Van Buren Regional Genealocial Society meeting will be held, Monday,
September 27 beginning at 7 P.M. at the Webster's Memorial Library - 200
N. Phelps Street, Decatur, Michigan. The public is invited!
