My great great grandfather John Caldwell from Ireland died in Big Rapids
on 24 December 1872. At the time he lived in Hillsdale County.
His 2 eldest sons (Thomas & John Jr) had homesteads in Missaukee County
at the time. Otherwise there is no connection of my Caldwell family to
the Mecosta County area. I am trying to figure why my great great
grandfather was in Big Rapids at the time; other than perhaps going
back to Hillsdale County after visiting his sons in Missaukee County.
I don't understand then why he did not pass through Cadillac, if sick.
It would have been closer than Big Rapids from Missaukee County
to get medical attention - because apparently he was gravely ill.
Can NOT find where he is buried. Apparently he is not buried in
Big Rapids; that I have not been able to find so far.
It could be however, I just can not find proof......
All my other Caldwell relatives are buried in the Caldwell cemetery
in Missaukee County; EXCEPT for my great great grandfather John (Sr).
Need help in finding where he is buried (Michigan someplace unknown).
He may be buried in Wexford County because of connections to Manton.
He lived in Hillsdale County, however he is NOT buried there anywhere.
The wife Jane (Thompson) Caldwell is in the Sand Creek cemetery
in Hillsdale County. The family lived in the Jonesville / Litchfield area.
Thanks for any ideas.... Doug Caldwell
