You might try Emmet Co. I think that is the county. Up near the Mackinaw
Bridge there was a fort. Fort Michilamackinac. That may be what you are
looking for.
good luck,
Beth

Subject: [MIGEN-L] DAFINAIS...Pokagon Twp???
Hello,
For some time I've been up against a brick wall concerning the origins
og
my gggrandfather. Family stories say one thing, but can't be
verified in
any
way concerning his birth and family. One thing I found was in a
Census for
one of his children in the late 1800's. Under "BirthPlace of Parents" it
appears to read "MICHIGAN" for my gggrandfather.
My gggrandfather was THOMAS J. DAFFIN and from censuses we determine his
birth date to be ca. 1814-1817. He shows up in Maryland in a mariage
notice
in 1837.
I am limited as to Michigan research, but found a document listing similar
names and found...
DAFINAIS, FRANCOIS....MICHILIMACKINAC...MI...POKAGON TWP...205...1830
I also see the same for 1834.
I could find no county by that name on rootsweb, so I am asking help...
Does anybody know of this surname DAFINAIS or where is this Pokagon Twp.
The name DAFFIN is believed to have been derived from French and has been
spelled many different ways.
I will appreciate any help.
