Hello everyone.
I just had a thought that might provide a different avenue of research
for me - but, I have no idea how to go about it...
The background info:
My great-grandfather was born in England in 1896.
Went to Canada about 1912.
Then came to Michigan in 1923.
There he lived until about 1953 or 54, when he was sent back to England.
The story I'm told is that he'd gotten very ill with Hodgkins
Disease, and because he had never become a US citizen, they sent him
back to England. This happened about a year or two before he died
(thus, the 1953 or 54).
I have copies of Western Union Telegrams from Leed, Yorkshire,
England, to the funeral home in Berkley, MI.
The 1st one states that he had died (3 Jun 1955), and if passage for the
return of his remains were not arranged, that he would be interred there
by such and such a date and time.
The 2nd one states the information on when and where his body would be
returned to.
Okay...so my question is...
does anyone know - if he was actually deported when he became ill -
where I could find any records of this? Surely, there must have been a
hearing, or type of "warrant" for this to have happened...some sort of
legal process for it...
Any ideas and suggestions will be greatly received and appreciated!
I will be looking forward to hearing from at least some of you!
Thanks in advance!
