Hello Michigan Researchers:
My g-g grandfather was a railroad man <sigh>. I've tracked him all over the
country and most recently lost the trail in Jackson Co., Michigan in 1873.
He died just 4 years later (17 Feb 1877); I'm trying to fill in those 4
years and find his place of death/burial. If anyone on the list has
convenient access to Jackson Co. records (Jackson City Directories, death
records, cemetery records or other such local lists) for the years
1871-1877, could you please check for his name? Here are the particulars:
Hugh S. MARKLE b. 24 Sep 1834 in Ontario (probably Brant Co.), Canada.
Married Anna L. Reagan on 19 Nov 1868 in Kane Co., IL.
1 Child, Mabel, b. 25 Feb 1872 in Wamego, KS. Another daughter,
Emma/Emaline/Emmie, was born 22 Oct 1875 and died 12 Jul 1876 (possibly in
MI.)
I have Hugh and Anna in Manhattan, KS in the 1870 census. In January 1873
they were apparently living in or near Jackson, MI. I have a record of
their sale of inherited land in Illinois; the transaction was witnessed by
Lewis D. Welling, justice of the peace in Jackson, MI.
Any assistance would be most sincerely appreciated.
