Good morning,
I'd like to take this opportunity to ask the people on these Lists to learn
more about the "British Home Children" aka "Home Children, Canada,"
who
were the "orphans and unwanted children" which "England" shipped out
of
their country.. and sent to Canada .. from ~1860 to ~1930. There were
100,000 of them .. and counting..
And, many more were shipped to Australia and New Zealand .. and some to
South Africa ... "England" sent them to all "British Colonies"
including
some to "the 13 Colonies" .. starting in the 1600's.
If you would like to learn more about these children .. and what happened to
them, you may join the BHC List .. at
www.rootsweb.com Go to the home
page and scroll down to the Mailing List INDEX .. You will find the BHC
List under "Canada." Reading the Archives of this List will be quite an
education for you; but be forewarned it is a 3-tissue read.
You may also put the terms, "British Home Children" or "Home Children,
Canada" or "Child Migrants" into a search-engine and find web sites about
them, including the following:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~britishhomechildren/
http://www.orphantrainriders.com/HomeChild/HomeIndex.html
Several databases are being constructed of the names of the "Home Children,"
and one database can be found at the National Archives of Canada web site:

Thank you for your time. Happy Holidays!
