I was told by the Register of Deeds for my county that a "delayed birth
registration" was one that was recorded later in life for a person. Not all
births were recorded (as we all know). When someone needed a birth
certificate for whatever reason (naturalization, etc.) they had to provide
proof as to when they were born. Delayed birth registrations often provide
much more information than a birth certificate. Some of the methods of
proof that people use to provide are census records, marriage records,
church records, notarized information from relatives, etc.
I hope this information helps...

Subject: [MIGEN-L] Please help
Hello list,
I hope someone can help me. I recieved a birth certificate today from my
gggrandfather born in 1887. At the top of the certificate it says "delayed
registration" and in a box for summary of supporting evidence it states:
"Affidavits of uncle and aunt
No documentary proof available"
Can anyone tell me what this might mean?
I have 2 scenerios:
1)He was born at home and his aunt and uncle were witnesses.
2)He lived with his aunt and uncle later on in life and they had to sign
affidavits to recieve a birth record.
The reason this is so important is that my mother believes that someone in
this line was an orphan, but she is not sure who and I've had no luck
locating their whereabouts. The names are
CLARENCE WILDIE
CHRISTIAN WILDIE
EMMA CAMPBELL
Any insight would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Cindy
