Hello out there!
My Grandmother was a Canadian-born, Brit, and I've just received her
Petition for Naturalization papers.
On these papers, it states that her last foreign residence was Toronto,
Canada and...
"My lawful entry for permanent residence in the United States was
at Detroit, Mich. under the name of Thelma POTTER on Sept
8 1923 at the Grand Trunk Ry as shown by the certificate of my
arrival attached to this petition..."
Unfortunately, I'd asked for copies of all pertinent papers when I'd
written to the County Clerk, but there was no arrival certificate
attached to what they'd sent me...
So, does anyone out there know if there were such "passenger" lists kept
for rail travel - or at least for non-citizens who'd entered the
country?
And if there were, does anyone know how I could find the one my
grandmother would be on? She would have only been 4 years old and
traveling with her parents, twin sister, and probably her grandfather.
Any help or suggestions for further research in this area will be
greatly appreciated!
Looking forward to hearing from at least some of you!...
All the Best,
