In 1946 the government released two lists of the veterans who had given
their lives in World War II.
We are putting the Michigan WWII Honor List online for all branches of the
service. The records are searchable by county or by name of the veteran.
Oneof the government lists was created of the all personnel from the rolls
of the Navy, Marines and Coast Guard. These contain their names, grade,
branch of the service, and next of kin with the address of the next of kin.
We have added the county for each to make searching easier for veteran
groups. Thus far the names of those who died are complete through the
letter K. When those who died have all the names entered the wounded will
be added. Those held in prison camps are also listed and will be completed.
There was also a publication that listed the Army personnel and Army Air
Force. These names are all grouped together by county. A list of the
counties done are at the bottom of the page and will be updated as more are
added.
Both booklets were published by the War Dept. in 1946 and each makes a note
that the records and status of individuals may have changed after
publication. They also used the address of the next of kin as a basis of
where these brave souls came from, which may have not be where they lived
when they went into the service or where they were born.
