My great-great grandfather, John ECKER is a pesky fellow and
disappears after 1880. Where did he go? Where's he buried? Where's his wife?
Here's the background:
John ECKER (also noted as EACKER) was born in the 1840's in New
York. His brother, Nicholas, was born in Johnstown, Montgomery
County, New York. I presume, therefore, that he was born in
Montgomery County as well.
1860 - John and brother Nicholas are in Palatine, Montgomery County,
New York working on a farm as laborers.
25 Apr 1869 - John marries Minerva Loretta YOUNG (YOUNGS) in Calhoun
County, Michigan. (His wife is listed at various times and places by
either her first or middle name.)
1870 - John, Minerva and son "Willie" (William "Will" L. ECKER) are
in Hastings Village, Barry County, Michigan
1880 - John, Loretta, William and Sarah are found in Mclennan, Texas.
4 May 1897 - John's son William marries Mary A. Woodliff in Concord,
Jackson County, Michigan (registered in St Joseph County).
10 July 1898 - William and Mary have a child Vera, born in Three
Rivers, St Joseph County, Michigan
1900 - William, Mary and Vera are in Lockport, St Joseph County, Michigan
As you can see, John and his wife Minerva Loretta disappear after
1880, but both of their children are back in Michigan by 1900. I
can't seem to find John or Minerva in either Michigan nor Texas. Any
assistance or thoughts on where to search for John and Minerva ECKER
would be appreciated.
Thanks,
John
