Hi All, that is one reason why I continually take the extra time to make all
name indexes to all the books we transcribe for my MARDOS Memorial Library.
I have seen people's names spelled up to 7 different ways. I guess it just
was not all that important to people back then. Or maybe the owner of the
name could not spell either so they did not know the difference....???

Sounds close enough for me -- I'd sure rank that high in my evaluation. I
just got back from Salt Lake and in one of their books I found may
ancestor's application for Justice of the Peace for two-three years straight
and in each mention of his name, they misspelled it! How in the world can
you misspell the same name that many times? I just recently "found" him
(Yea!) but in just the few documents I have looked at in those two short
days, I found his name spelled Mackinder, McKinder, Mackender, machender,
McInder and Meinder. The "Meinder" reallllllly got me. If I hadn't got
myself in the habit of looking at all the "M's" in every list, I
would've
never found it. So -- do what you very experienced brain and your gut tells
you to do. Sandy Childs
I find record of Marriage of what I believe to be my Great Great
Grandmother, Harriet Fisher to Sylvanus Brant 24 Dec 1846 Jackson, Michigan,
Batch number M518493 Dates 1833-1852 Source Call No. 0941632 Film and that
was viewed. Though it says Sylvanus Brant, ages and other information match
making me believe that someone somewhere somehow either dropped the y or
some transcription error. I believe it to actually be Sylvanus Bryant. I
have been searching for her parentage without success. She was born NY and
he was born ME. Any suggestions?
