Hello
Thought I would post my interests again in case there are any new members
who might have some clues or suggestions for me.
Robert WEIR (c.1811-1875) and wife Elizabeth HALL had two sons born in
Hamilton Township, Northumberland County, Ontario who emigrated to Michigan.
One was Thomas WEIR and the other I believe was Richard. I have found Thomas
WEIR in the 1870 census for Sand Beach, Huron County, Michigan. I have an
article from the Cobourg World newspaper Jan 3, 1902 stating: "Mrs. Thos
Weir and daughter leave on friday for their Home in helena Michigan after a
month's visit among friends in this neighbourhood and Percy." (Percy is
another township in Northumberland County).
Another article from the same paper, Jan 23, 1903: "Mr. E. Weir of Alnwick
and Mr Wm Weir of Percy Township returned recently from a visit with their
brothers in Michigan. It was the first meeting of the four brothers in 37
years."
This is the only information I have on these two Michigan WEIRs. I am
wondering if anyone is researching these families or has any advice on how
to proceed from here. I have lots of information to share on the WEIR family
that initially settled in Northumberland County Ontario. I believe that
Robert (the father of Thomas and Richard) was a brother of my ggg
grandfather Lancelot WEIR (c. 1796-1871), but have not been able to prove
it. I am hoping that by tracing lateral lines, I will find some new clues. I
am also willing to trade research in the National Archives of Canada for
Michigan research if anyone is interested.
