Hello,
I'm new to the MIGEN List, having joined to help a friend in Sweden trace her
grandfather's life here in the United States. His name was Sven Abdon
Wallin, born 14 May 1893, in Hässjö, Sweden. He left Sweden in October,
1923. He and my friend's grandmother were divorced in 1928, although he
never returned to Sweden.
According to a handwritten notation on his Ellis Island records, it appears
that Sven Abdon began his application (#8-261126) for naturalization in 1942
in Michigan. (These records also state that he had tatoos on both hands!) I
think he may have changed the "Sven Abdon" Wallin to a more American sounding
name: Alden Wallin, and am hoping that his naturalization records, if I find
them, will help me verify whether or not that is true.
There is an Alden Wallin listed in the SSDI, as having died in Dec. 1972,
with a last residence of Marquette, MI. He was a long time railroad worker.
However, the birthdate for Alden Wallin is given here as 04 January 1897,
which is not the same date that I was given by my friend in Sweden for her
grandfather. I have sent for this SS-5.
On the Swedish EMIGRANTEN CD that lists emigrants from Sweden, I find a Sven
Aldon Wallin, age 30, an iron worker, who emigrated from Sweden on 12 October
1923. Most likely, he is the same person as Sven Abdon Wallin who was my
friend's grandfather.
I would also like to obtain the Naturalization records, but haven't the
slightest idea how to do this in Michigan. Could some kind person explain
how I should do this? Any other ideas or suggestions that would help us
would also be appreciated. Thank you so much!
